What would be a good starter motorcycle?
I'm kind of set on buying a motorcycle. The most practice iv had on one is on a pocket rocket when i was younger, so basically none. I'm planning on taking the Motorcycle Safety Course soon and will buy a bike soon after. I'm dead set on a sport styling. I was looking into maybe a used Honda CBR500 or maybe a newer Ninja 300. I don't really want a 250 because i know i will outgrow it quickly and i won't have the money or time to invest in selling it and buying another. I will take any suggestions. My friend started on GSXR 600 and is doing fine so maybe one of those? I will be responsible on any bike i get and only use as much power as i need. I will also wear a leather jacket with pads inside for protection along with hard knuckle gloves and helmet. Keep in mind that i'm 6 feet tall and weigh roughly 160 pounds.
You seem to have your head together and have an example to work from, so get what you like. My first bike was a Keystone 50cc pull start when I was 6 years old in 1975. My second bike was a Maaco 390 when I was 13. I tried my best to kill myself on that bike, but failed. That CBR? I would ride it, you bet. Just take your MSF training seriously and concentrate on your total environment when you ride and you will be fine. Or not. You already realize that when you hit the road on a motorcycle, it is inherently dangerous. That's what makes it worthwhile.
GSXR 600 in line 4 is gutless and useless under around 7000 rpm as it has no low down torque and make it's power at high revs meaniing you have to rev and ride it hard for it to work properly
As a beginner or on roads with a speed limit it is going to be a complete waste of money as you won't even be using the power you have paid for.
The CBR 500 being a twin and being more upright makes it's power under 7000 rpms is and perfect for riding street and will easily plod along at around 100 mph if needed.
Either bike. Whichever is in the best shape and / or is the best deal.
- What's a good starter motorcycle? I've rode dirtbikes since I was 5 and I just realized I turn 16 in 20 days. So I worked all summer to get a car but f*** a car, is rather get a bike. I have about $2000 that I want to put toward a motorcycle. I really want something lower in cc like around 250cc. I want name brand no Chinese junk. I wanted a something like a cbr or a ninja but my parents say it's a death trap. So what we narrowed it down to is the honda shadow style bikes. What are some other bikes like that?
- What's a good starter motorcycle similar to the Honda Rebel? I'm 5'10, and weigh 150 pounds. I like the honda rebel, but i realize that it may be too small for me. I want a good looking, easy to ride, starter bike that has freeway capabilities.
- What's a good starter dirtbike? The rider is gonna be around 200 lbs about 5'8" and terrain will be hilly clay dirt with deep puddles. are Honda crf 's and xrs good? Only four stroke though.
- What is a great starter motorcycle? I have found an '87 Honda CBR1000 for a good price on craigslist, but I don't know if 1000cc's will be too much or not. I really like the look of the bike, and wouldn't mind have it. I have a budget of around $1,000-$1,500.
