1998 Honda Accord Ex struggles to turn on and shuts off while driving?
The starter, battery, alternator, they're all good and I have no check engine light. Any idea what's wrong?
Check the fuel pump.
Top suspects are the ignition switch and the ignition control module. If the ignition switch is at fault the warning lights (oil, battery, check engine…) will not come on when the engine shuts down.
The ICM can be tested with a helper to crank the engine. Hold the coil wire (from the distributor) near engine block and watch as the helper cranks the engine. There should be a strong, mostly blue, spark with a sharp snap. If the spark is more orange than blue and has a lackluster pop the ICM is dying.
Occasionally a fuel pump relay ("main relay" will cause an engine to die but usually they are just a source of hard starting. Honda fuel pumps rarely fail but anything can happen.
Another rarity is the EGR valve sticking open. Blocking the EGR pipe will rule that out.

- My 2000 Honda Civic EX shuts off when driving it, sometimes it'll start back up but sometimes it won't I got my tail pipe and muffler replaced. I also got the catalytic converter and MAP sensor replaced in my car as well. My dad believes it could be the fuel filter, but we have no clue what it really is.
- Car almost shuts off on me while idoling? I have a 2002 honda civic and replaced my alternator 2 years ago and it has been working fine. But this morning i parked my car and it tried to shut off while it was idoling the lights flashed for a second then it was back to normal… No idea what's wrong?
- 1998 Honda civic dx jerks while driving? I recently bought a 1998 Honda Civic DX 5 speed. When I get to around 3-4 thousand rpm ( guessing the car doesn't have a rpm gauge ) the car starts to like shake and jerk. Also when I'm in neutral and let out on the clutch it makes a grinding like noise. Where I bought it told me it was a throw out bearing but me and my friend replaced it and it's still making the noise
- Car radio won't turn off after the ignition is off and key pulled out? I have a 2008 Honda Accord and just recntly realized that the car radio stays on after the car is completely off. I turned the radio off manually but the led display still stays on. It has the factory radio. I also just got a new battery 2 days ago. Help please, what could it be and how do I fix it?
