A Junk yard is offering me $310 for my old car?
I have a 1999 Honda Accord and i just got an expensive repair come up so i decided to sell it to a junk yard and they are paying me $310 based on the condition of the car.Is that too little?
That's probably about right.
Seems right for that business, I think that is what they are paying for old cars, I got about the same amount for my car (I forget the year but it was like 15 yrs old). You can probably shop around for someone who wants to restore cars and make a few more dollars off the car but its probably not worth the effort.
If you think you can get more some place else, I suggest you go there.
Junk yard and pawn shops always cheat you, but you have to weigh the difference between the cost of the repair and the cost of another car. Try taking it to a used car dealer and see what they offer.
For 95 percent of cars that old they would offer almost nothing, sounds like a bargain
Value is based on the amount a willing buyer will give to a willing seller. So value is arbitrary. You might find a pull-a-parts that will give $400 if you shop around, but that's pretty much the base price a junkyard will give for pretty much any vehicle. List it on craigslist and see if you can find a more willing buyer. Some individual may be a collector (I know, crazy, right?) and need it for a parts car. They may offer more, who knows.
$310 is a fair junk yard price. If you want to try to get another $100 or $200 out of it that might be possible, but you will be stuck towing it around, storing it, placing ads for it and talking to multiple people, etc. There's always a price for the convenience of just getting the cash and being done with it.
No. That's fair.
Junk yards pay on the basis of scrap value, about $6/lb where I'm. I'm guessing that that's about right.
About right. You know they will part it out and realize over $1200 ? Even weight of steel will be worth that $310 if they don't sell one part of it.
If you want more, advertise in Craig's List as parts. Or, say; $20 minimum or remove transaxle and engine and sell them separately.
I needed a new A/C switch, it is Unobtanium. I'd have paid $25 alone for it. But, everyone wants $900 for a complete, new climate control. I eventually fixed it. I was quoted $1800 for a new Seal; when a factory rebuild motor is less. No one "loses" money.
- Is it normal for someone to still drive a 20-year-old car? I still see dozens of 20-year-old Hondas and Toyotas every day. Is it a Japanese car thing to last that long or is it normal? I want to get a 20-year-old car soon.
- I live in a home that was made in the 50's or 60's. We have an old style looking light pole in our front yard? However, someone ran straight over our light pole with a Honda. It's held up by a string right now but we want to either fix or replace the whole unit. I have attempted to Google this & find an answer but I have had no luck & need some direction as to what to do now.
- How much is it to remove old carpet in my car and install a new one? I have a 1993 honda and I want to know how much it will cost to have someone to remove and install the carpet
- How much would I pay for an engine for a 2003 Honda Civic EX automatic from a junk yard(approximately)? I got taken for a fool in an as-is sale of a car that looked to be in great condition. Turns out the engine was shot. I signed an as-is contract and now I'm looking for the cheapest way to replace the engine which I'm thinking is probably a junk yard. I'm in the Lansing, MI area. What could I expect to pay for an engine from a junk yard?
