Did i buy a lemon or can this be fixed?
So yesterday i went to go look at this 1992 honda accord ex it has 160 k miles its a manual but i can drive stick. So i took my uncle with me hes not to shabby with cars especially homdas. So anyway i checked the car out and it seemed fine for an older vehicle i did an all around check to find any cons i found some but none with the engine. Only minor things like dirty seats and i had to get a radio. So i drove it home may i mention i stalled a few times just getting the hang of the new clutch catch system. I got on the highway heading home and smelt smoke my guess was from the clutch since i had stalled. So i got home and noticed oil leaking profusely so my uncle told me to bring the car by so i drove it to my unlces house right up the street turned it off and when i did i took the key out yet i could still hear a fan so that was odd plus a bit more smoke. Then on the car never started again it would act As if because of the lights and junk but the engine wouldnt start.
After an hours of just sitting i tried again and it did start but held the cluth put it in first but it was like nothing no accl. Not one inch… The ebrake was off.
So the guy came by today he showed me where the oil had been leaking put a universal stopper in to stop it and said i don't know what else to do. Gave me 50 bucks and a **** you basically.
I just looked outside and this car is still leaking oil.
I'm only 18 but i have learned a valuabe lesson of patience.
Is this car done or could ot wrk?
Just the facts, man, cut the drama, the life story and get right to the question. Did you buy a lemon- Yes. Are you screwed? Yes. Does it have an oil leak? Yes. Will it cost more than the car is worth to fix it? Yes. Should you have a competent mechanic check out the next car you buy? Yes. Should your Uncle quit his day job and become a mechanic? Nope.
Thanks for telling us your whole life story. You could have saved us the soap opera by saying you bought a car and it has an oil leak.
Who the heck knows where this oil leak is? You didn't tell us. Nobody could tell you whether this car is done for with the info you gave. How about resubmitting the question without the drama. Just the facts.
Most anything can be fixed. Take it to a shop and get some facts first on what the problem really is. Leaking oil is not the problem, its the result of a problem.
Dealership or privaTe party? Ask them to fix it… If they can't after 3 times. They have to take it back and refund your money… Honda engine should easily go 300k miles.
It is a used car, it's now YOUR USED CAR.
If your uncle can't get you going, then call AAA
and get it to a honda specialist.
The parts are better and cheaper at the dealer in my experience.
Plus, they want to see your car do well.
Try them or a shop with a good rep. Amongst your honda friends.
It's a 23 year old car, a lemon is a NEW car with problems. You bought the vehicle "As is", so you are responsible for anything that needs to be fixed. It is not the seller's responsibility to fix it.
Bad as it seems it is only an oil leak, provided you did not run it with the oil light on. In that case you might have done some damage but otherwise all it is a replace a seal--or the oil pan if it has a hole in it. This is only a big deal if it is the main crankshaft seal located between the engine and transmission. Even so, it is just another job. It does seem odd that it went just as soon as you bought it.
- Paying for Honda Loaner Car From Dealership while Paint Recall is Being Fixed? I'm going to be paying $33/day for (1 to 2 weeks) for a loaner car from my honda dealership while its away in the shop. Is there any flexibility in picking what car I want or do they automatically assign me a car. I feel like since i'm paying i should be able to pick what car I want, or even pay a little more for something nicer?
- Honda crv startng to squeak again after being fixed last year? Someone told me to lubricate the rubber mounts I replaced in the back to reduce squeaking. It squeaks over bumps and gravel road. I have noticed its silent only on rainy days. If I do lubricate do I need to lift the car or can I just get under it and spray the lub?
- Just fixed a blown head gasket? It's a 1998 honda civic ex 1.6L vtec just basically got everything back together. Nervous to start it back up. Basically my question is how can I get the air bubbles out of my radiator if there's any. Just want to make sure the antifreeze is flowing correctly
- How much would it cost to get a manual car window fixed? I drive a 2000 Honda Civic. Inside of the car are manual window that I, myself have to roll up/down. This winter I tired rolling then up, and but as I was rolling it up, it broke. It's still broken, and I don't know what to do. The window won't go up. How much would it cost to get this repaired?
