Gas grade for Honda?

I have a 2013 Honda Accord, and i'm not sure which gas to use with it. My dad says i have to use Plus, because its better for the engine. I used Regular for a bit, and he says to not use Regular anymore; otherwise it can damage the engine or systems. Can i still use Regular, or should i start using Plus gas?

It should be able to burn regular, but plus may help the mpg and engine wear. Drive it with regular for 2 tanks of gas, and check the mileage. Also run it hard up a mountain, and listen to the motor (back off if you hear a rattle or pinging). Next, drive with plus for 2 tanks of gas and check the mileage. Also drive it hard up a mountain, while listening to the motor. If there's no difference, use regular. If it improved with the plus gas, use it. Good gas and regular oil changes will help the car to last. I use plus gas in my vehicles, because they run better with it.

If the engine wasn't pinging ( rapping noise) or overheating i think you can use lower octane. According to a Fird engineer at their priving grounds Techroline is the best fuel system cleaner. It's in cheveron fuel and over the counter at a auto parts store. You can use cheaper fuel add one bottle every other tank.

ITS A HONDA NOT A ROLLS, PUT REGULAR IN DAT S HIT.

If the manual says "regular" (87 octane) buy regular. ("Plus" is 89 octane, "premium" is 91.)

You match the gas to the compression ratio of the engine. Buying 89 octane for an 87 octane engine is like buying size 10 shoes when you wear a size 9.

Use regular unleaded, per Honda (I own a 2018 CRV and the dealer was adamant that all Honda models can run on regular unleaded). Just make sure you keep up with scheduled maintenance (oil changes, etc.).

Honda's use 87 octane

Your dad is wrong. That car was DESIGNED to use regular gas. Make sure it says "top tier" on the pump and you'll be just fine.

Incidentally, Costco gas is the cheapest around, and it's top tier gas. Top tier gas has all the additives and detergents to keep your combustion chamber and intake runners cleaner.

READ the owner's manual that came with the car. It will tell you the proper fuel octane rating for your car.

It uses regular.

Buying plus for it will be a waste of money.

It's a myth that i)premium grade fuels are "better" for an engine and ii) an engine designed to run on a particular fuel would be damaged by that same fuel. Put in whatever Honda recommends - regular unleaded probably. They know a thing or two about building engines. Trust me.

  • Which gas grade should I use for my new CRV? I got my new 2014 Honda crv, which gas grade should I use currently, 87 or 89? The user manual says use 87 or higher. I'm thinking maybe I should use 89 during break-in period? I feel i'm a little overconcerned? Manual Fuel recommendation: Unleaded gasoline with a pump octane number 87 or higher required
  • What gas grade should I use on my old car? I have a 1989 HOnda Civic LX, the previous owner said I should use 93 octane, but I don't really know why do I need to shell out another 2-3 bucks on a full tank. On the manual of Update: EDIT: Thanks! But how can we explain that, whenever I use premium
  • What's the difference between gas grade? Especially talking about the 85 and the 93 ( usability referred to as special and premium ) . Is there really a significant difference or have I been wasting my money on premium gas? And for people who knows cars, I have a 2011 Honda Accord SE ( special edition) . Is buying premium gas even necessary for the car? Or would special be at better fit?
  • I have a 96 Honda Accord. I have to pump the gas pedal before it will roll over? Wasn't a problem before, but it takes longer and longer to roll over the more humid the weather gets. What's the problem and how much is this going to cost me?
