What gas grade should I use on my old car?

I have a 1989 HOnda Civic LX, the previous owner said I should use 93 octane, but I don't really know why do I need to shell out another 2-3 bucks on a full tank. On the manual of
Update: EDIT: Thanks! But how can we explain that, whenever I use premium

Octane is basically the resistance to ignite the higher the octane the higher the resistance.legally the gas can't be of a literal higher quality than the other octanes. So you should only need a higher octane if your car has been modified with a turbo or has had its compression ratio changed.

just a little add in higher octanes can actually be worse depending on the gas station due to sitting in the storage tanks longer and gathering contaminants.

High ocane is recommended for high proformance engines. Otherwise you shouldn't have to run higher octane gas

Regular unleaded. Think of it this way. The cars old, is it worth it to invest in twice the money in had in an older car just for the same performance. The cars on worth what gas your putting in to it. I drive a 99 Silverado. $75 for regular to gas it up. $120 to use hi octane. Trust me you won't get any better performance.
