I have a 1994 honda accord the mechanic said the ecu is bad?
I opened it to look inside and to get the number to order another and notice in the upper left it appears a chip is missing am I right? If so no wonder it doesn't work. Can I get the chip or is if cheaper to buy a used ecu on eBay?
The basic thing is: What the problem(s)? What have you checked/ testing and make you to open up the PCM and look inside? What are you looking for? Def. Not for an "Empty" slot on the circuit board of the PCM.
What's the code(s)? What make the "Mechanic" said the PCM is bad? General and unclear question like this will not have a clear answer or good advices other than having more questions to you.
Want my answer for your "Unclear" question?: That slot was a reserved slot for "Future update" that Honda made back then. The "Update" was made but it was the birth of another circuit board, not an additional "Chip".
Now. What is the concerns?
LOl! You're truthful but funny. Easy on the OP. Just a question, even though he did not want to tell what has happened. They were looking for assurance, which we can't give. Let them replace the ECM and find out. Cheer.

- Should I have a mechanic inspect the car I'm about to purchase (2009 honda civi hybrid - 52K miles)? It is at wheels and deals. I do not know if they check out the cars or allow inspections. I know nothing about cars. Should I have a shop inspect it? Or is it okay not to do since I'm buying from wheels and deals and the car has very low miles?
- Mechanic said he rebuilt the engine, smoke coming out of engine, could it be the grease burning off? The mechanic said he rebuilt the engine to my 1974 Honda CB550 I bought from him. Said he rebuilt the engine and is in perfect running condition. He has many bikes lying around and seems as if he is a hobbyist for bikes. He told me that he basically greased up a lot of parts of the motor and it is burning the grease off. The next oil change I do should remove the excess grease.
- Fuel leak. Mechanic said it's the housing unit? I took my car into the shop on Friday due to having a fuel smell. They said it is the housing unit that the fuel pump is on. When they called the dealership, they said the fuel pump has to be replaced, not just the housing unit and that my car has more than one pump. Is that possible? My car is a 2001 Honda Civic.
- 2001 civic ECU swap. Do numbers have to be exact? ECU in my 2001 civic blew because the alternator bolt wasn't completely tightened after timing belt job. Old ECU numbers is 37820-PLR-C53 (2001 civic ex 2 door Vtec). Junkyard ECU 37820-PLR-C56 (2002 civic ex 2 door Vtec) I have been unable to find an exact match. Looking at forums some have had success with some slight differences in numbers others say exact. Will the junkyard ECU work in my car after the immobilizer has been programmed by Honda?
