I have a 93 honda accord. That shuts off after driving for awhile and it gets hot. Also driving for a short period on hot days?

So I'm driving and when the engine gets hot my car starts to putter? Stall? As I begin to stop my car acts like it's loosing power and begins puttering and turns off. I could turn my vehicle on I can go about 1 mile. Every time I come to a stop it continues to do as stated before. But a couple of more times the check engine light comes on and I have to let my car cool down (which on hot days it's usually at night). It won't start back up until it cools down, and the check engine light is off. What needs to be repaired or replaced?

It's not possible to know… You need to have a mechanic do an inspection, which "we" on YA can't do

Coolant isn't getting from your radiator to your engine. Could be any number of things. Is there antifreeze/water in the radiator? Are there holes in the hoses? Did a hose come loose? Did the fan belt break? Maybe the water pump went out. Could also be a hole in the radiator. Better get someone who knows what they're doing to take a look at it. You keep driving it like that and your engine could seize up which means your car would be dead.

Defiantly sounds like it's a radiator problem coolants not getting to the engine check under your car for wet spots

Something in the cooling device doesn't work right, it could be a damaged thermostat, or simply cooling liquid could be missing, that should be checked first, maybe there's a hole in the radiator where cooling liquid is draining.

There's no leak at all, doesn't over heat, its been doing it over a year now. Its getting frustrating. Mechanics are pricey, I'm a college student on a budget. Thought I would check out this first.

Check coolant levels, they may be low (and there may be leaks that need be fixed). The thermostat may be faulty. The water pump may be faulty. The radiator may be clogged and need cleaning. The cooling fan may not operate when it should and this could be due to a faulty temp sensor that should turn it on or due to a faulty fan motor, You need to go through all the steps until you find and fix the fault.

It sounds like the igniter (aka ignition control module) inside the distributor is overheating. At that stage - it will get worse - the spark is also orangish rather than mostly blue. It is a very common failure mode and Honda ICMs have a fairly high failure rate.

The best test is to keep a wet, old towel with you and to wrap the metal part of the distributor with it when it quits. If it starts a few minutes later, then you know.

The first time that happened to you the vehicle should have been towed to a mechanic to be repaired. Now you likely caused a small problem to become a $2200 head gasket job!

It sounds as though the engine is severely overheating. You can't keep driving it like this. It's like making an elderly person run. Over and over and over. They have a heart attack and die. And so will your engine.

The distributor igniter in this model stops working under these exact conditions when it is worn out. If it restarts after it cools down replace either the igniter or the complete distributor
