Why does my car only starts when i press the gas?

I'm going to be as detailed as i can possibly be and try to make easy to understand. I have a 1998 Honda Accord Ex 4 cylinder engine. Lately my car would crank but would not start unless i press the gas. Sometimes it would start without me pressing the gas but rarely. Now that i told my problem i'm going to mention other details. I installed brand new spark plugs and bought new wires for my car. I have already checked to see if the battery is good and it is, the starter is good, and also the ignition is good. The only thing i haven't changed yet is the distributor. I'm not sure if thats the problem or what. Please help no bad comments. I'm not a car guy i don't know everything about cars i just want to be able to go to work!

Could be a faulty coolant temperature sensor - https://www.2carpros.com/articles/coolant-temperature-sensor-cts-replacement

Sound like a fuel supply problem if it take a press of the pedal to actually start after engine is cranked. Try replacing the fuel filter first. If that doesn't work then it maybe the fuel pump. I wouldn't spend too much time and money trying to self diagnose the problem. If replacing the fuel filter (very cheap and easy job to do), I'd just take it to a mechanic.

If you lack automotive knoledge i would take it to a shop, it would cost more to throw parts at it than to get it properly diagnosed. To answer your question fuel delivery could be and issue but most cara now don't have a fuel filter, onlu a screen on the fuel pump. The most common priblem i see with your symptom is a dirty throttle body. Id try that first, a can of throttle body cleaner is cheaper than a fuel pump.
