Why people buy cars?
Now, I understand when someone gets a sedan, a pick-up truck or a station wagon. These are utility vehicles and it makes perfect sense to buy such type of vehicles.
But I didn't understand a thing when a friend of mine bought a Fiat 500 Abarth as a 'weekend fun car' (He already owns a Honda Accord).
If I was him; I'd have gone with a… MOTORCYCLE!
Ducati Monster 821 Roadster: 3.6sec 0-60, 11.5sec 1/4 Mile @ $11,500 MSRP.
Fiat 500 Abarth: 6.3sec 0-60, 14.8sec 1/4Mile @ $21,000 MSRP.
And to put things into perspective:
Audi TT RS: 3.4sec 0-60, 13.2sec 1/4 Mile @ $66,000 MSRP
The Abarth is more compareable to:
Kawasaki Ninja 300: 5.6sec 0-60, 14.61sec 1/4 Mile @ $4,000 MSRP.
Not only that but bikes are more agile and are just a BLAST to ride; and here's why:
On a bike:
Your right hand's palm is throttle; fingers are front brakes and thumbs are low-high beam.
Your left hand's fingers are clutch and thumb controls the horn & indicator etc.
Your right foot is the rear brake.
Your left foot is the gearbox.
Your arms steer at low speeds.
Your whole body steer at high speeds.
So… YOU'RE ALL OVER IT!
And that gives you a feeling like no other! It's the best way if you want to 'feel' the machine. I can feel EVERYTHING on the bike. The engine, the wheels, the road, the wind, the world…
There's a reason us riders invented the term 'but dyno'! Our behinds can tell how many HP the engine beneath us makes!
So…
My question is; WHY?
You are not him.
Perhaps he's smart enough to know the no matter how fast a motorcycle is you still get wet when it rains.
He's smart enough to think of rain, cold weather, groceries, other drivers crashing into you, etc. You're not
also just because you have one car, doesn't mean you won't need another one if you ever get into a wreck or have issues.
It's all relative. My second car is… An airplane. It's not an expensive one (same cost as the Abarth) and it puts your motorcycle to shame in terms of fun, performance and freedom. Can you ride upside down or do rolls? Can you ride your bike across the English Channel, have lunch in Paris, and be back in time for dinner in London? How about looking down and thumbing your nose at all the traffic congestion on the road? And, pretty much everything you're raving about the performance of your bike means you are constantly breaking the law. I don't have to do that to have way more fun and overall coolness than you do. Hopefully you get the point. Different strokes for different folks.
Because stealing them is against the law.
Where we live the outdoor temperature today was a high of 10 degrees. Tonight's temperature will be 5 degrees below 0. That's why we buy cars. I only rode my motorcycles about 6 months out of the year. Then stored it for the cold winter months. I still managed to put around 8,000 miles on my motorcycles during those 6 months.
Bragging rights
Perhaps because it's winter at the moment, so a coupe, sedan, SUV, truck, etc. Would be the better option.
But a motercycle can wait until spring or summer or perhaps early fall/autumn.
To get laid faster.
Go eat vegetables and granola, hippy.
I would so much rather drive that Abarth than a motorcycle. No words to describe how much more.
- Why people buy those POS Harleys? Why don't they buy a Hayabusa? Harleys are low, long, heavy and expensive. Whereas Hayabusa is comparable to a Bugatti Veyron. Plus, Hayabusa in made in Japan, so it's got Honda like reliability. Harley, on the other hand, break down all the time. So… Why people buy Harleys? Must be a baby boomers' thing which a millennial like me would never understand!
- Why don't people buy a real car? It's crazy with all the money people dump into a car they could of saved up an bought a real sports or muscle car. Instead they'd buy a Honda, Volkswagen, or Mitsubishi. An waste money from car lowering it, buying bodykits or horrible rims that don't even help with performance. Can't forget a big spoiler, painted rims or a painted hood. Or cheap aftermarket parts. Like honestly why not save up a little drive a pos an leave it the way it is?
- Why don't more people buy Subaru? You just can't get a better deal for an AWD vehicle under $30,000. They are just as reliable as Nissan and Honda and have good mpg. Please no anti-Japanese car remarks, boring does not count as an answer.
- Why do some people buy new cars to save gas? It seems like people complain about high gas prices so they go and buy these expensive gas saving cars. Usually a Honda or Toyota hybrid that's about $35,000 dollars. So what's the point of buying the car if you just wasted all that money. You could have just used that money for gas. Don't you think it's better to just buy a cheap $1,000 dollar Honda and save all that money for gas? Because buying the new car you pretty much threw all the money away.
