Bought a 63' Studebaker Cruiser for $300, what is it worth?
Me and my fiancé are basically pickers. We buy and sell whatever we can get our hands on. Well yesterday we were asking about a Honda that has been sitting up for a while and she told us about her 63' Studebaker. We went and looked at it, it's been kept in a garage for a LONG time. As far as I can see the body and interior are in great condition despite the dust and webs. The motor is in it, but it's been taken apart, because it blew the seals a long time ago. My fiancé had the idea of putting a 350 chevy engine in it and selling it but first I wanted to find out if I can get an idea of how much this thing is worth before we put any labor into it. We only paid $300 for it so it's still scrap able. How much would you guys say this car is worth?
Not exactly the most sought after year and model, but still worth more than you paid for it, as most of the parts will interchange with the more desirable Lark, In other words you could be sitting on a lot of money in just parts, and most definitely not scrap, As to an engine retrofit? There's a bit more to it than you think, and as a general rule won't increase the value of a 4 door sedan, This is usually reserved for the 2 door coupes and a full on retro mod is done to see any value increase, and even then its doubtful you'll see any profit, its a labor of love rather than a money making venture in most cases, Now had you found say a 63 R2 powered Super Lark in that condition one post on any of the Studebaker club forums would have started a feeding frenzy of epic proportions, In your case a couple of posts could land some interested buyers looking to restore a Lark.
- Upgrading 300,000 miles SOHC engine? I want to upgrade my hondas SOHC 1.6 ltr engine with new pistons, crankshaft, camshaft, displacement, engine head, valves and springs, cam gears, connecting rods, fuel system, and a small stage 1 turbo but the engine has 300,000 miles in it. If i upgrade it anyway, will it make the engine newer, or will i have to replace it either way?
