Upgrading 300,000 miles SOHC engine?

I want to upgrade my hondas SOHC 1.6 ltr engine with new pistons, crankshaft, camshaft, displacement, engine head, valves and springs, cam gears, connecting rods, fuel system, and a small stage 1 turbo but the engine has 300,000 miles in it. If i upgrade it anyway, will it make the engine newer, or will i have to replace it either way?

It will be a lot cheaper to replace your engine with a crate rebuild than to do a custom rebuild on yours.

I do believe the compression ratio needs to be compatible with turbo. Suggestion: if you are not familiar with engine rebuilds, look into a reman. Engine.

What you are talking about is basically a complete engine rebuild. By the time you get done doing all that, it will be like a brand new engine.

Strip it down to the bare block, have the machine shop make sure the cylinder bores aren't worn, the mains aren't worn & are still aligned, and the deck is flat, and check the block for cracks. Anything out of tolerance can usually be remachined (up to a limit) and brought back into spec. Everything else in the engine will get replaced when you do your high performance build, and you will essentially have a brand new engine.

It sounds like you are replacing everything that makes an engine break down at 300K miles. The only thing you are keeping is the block.

Try looking into a rebuilt JDM import engine.

I think you should start out with a good used engine with less mileage on it. You are talking about re-manufacturing the engine but for the high performance I think you are planning you should realize that some of the parts can suffer metal fatigue even though measurement shows no change dimensionally. But you can do as you list and probably get away with it. Probably.

Need help and advice on building your engine?

Putting a turbo on a 300k engine isn't really good, but however if you do a do a full rebuild like you planned to do, then its all good.

I can help you chosing your parts, matching the turbo, and help you rebuilding the engine although its not EZ via internet ill try lol.

You probably need to get the block bored and a valve job. If you haven't spun a cam or main bearing, cracked the block, and turn the crank or make sure that there's no wear on it, it should be as good as new if it is put back together properly. DO put a new oil pump, water pump, thermostat, and hoses on it.

  • Would you purchase a 2004 Honda pilot for $6,000.000 that has 216,000 miles on it? I'm just browsing online looking at cars for sale and a lot of them have 200k or more miles on them and they want $4,000 or more. Why do people sale their cars for such a high price with a lot of miles on them? Its not just Hondas its all types of cars private and dealers as well
  • About how much would a Honda CBR 300 engine weigh? I'm looking for a suitable engine for an APU (auxiliary power unit) for an EV (electric vehicle) range extender. I've came across some wrecked CBR 300's for cheap and they seem to be just what I'm looking for. I take it the engine and transmission are one unit which is ok. But about how much would one weigh? I'm looking for something that's light, low emissions, and with close to 20hp/15kW continuous power. Thanks!

Will this car be safe to drive long distances?
