Car dies if I try to accelerate?

I have a 1990 Honda prelude 2.0 si. The fuel pump had been changed. When I turn on the car sometimes it has difficulty turning over other times it's instant. When I'm in idle it'll sometimes drop very low and seems to have trouble staying on. If I try to floor it it'll sputter and try die. Other times if I'm in a red light and try to accelerate nothing happens. It doesn't rev or move forward. It'll then die and make a loud grinding noise. I checked the engine oil and its fine. What could be the problem?

Clean the insides of the battery cables and have the fuel pressure tested clean the throttle body and the air by pass valve. Or if you didn't understand a thing I've said take it to the shop.

  • Should I try to get a new car soon? I have a 1996 Honda Odyssey with about 227k miles on it I mean it runs well it starts up quickly but the interior is pretty messed up and it's pretty slow as in I usually have to go 40mph in a 35 zone to keep up but I was thinking should I try to get a new car with less miles?
  • Would a 4 Cylinder Car in Sport Mode be able to accelerate faster than a V6 car in ECO mode? Take the Honda CRV Turbo at 190 horse power 4 cylinder in Sport Mode vs the Oddysey with 285 Horsepower on ECO with a V6.
  • Why does my car shake when I accelerate? Every time I drive my car i press the gas and it has a bad rumbling on the right side of the car. The rumbling starts from 1mph to 30 mph. The faster I go, the sound goes away. It also shakes very little and it makes my steering wheel shake very light. I'm going to take it to a mechanic but if anyone knows and can give me suggestions before getting it serviced. It's a 2009 honda civic ex
  • My car won't start but when I try to start it, it sounds like a power drill? I have a 95 Honda Civic and it does not start it keeps making a noise that sounds like a power drill spinning. I have no idea what it is or could be any more. I've pulled the starter and put in a new one and the starter is still not catching the fly wheel. I have even resorted to charging the battery, checking all fluids (transmission, antifreeze, etc.) and putting in 5 gallons of gas but still nothing, can't pay to get it to a shop. Anything helps thanks.
