2001 Honda civic sedan heating up and stalling?

My car stalls. (1.7l 2001 honda civic )

The engine is really hot when I open the hood after it stalls, and after letting it cool down the car will drive another 10 minutes then stall out again.

The temperature guage doesn't register it

And it seems as if the 4 modules on the top of the valve cover (1.7l engine 2001 civic sedan)

I think they are heating up then shutting the car off to prevent damage maybe.

I wired up power to the radiator fan, and while that can is on it hasn't stalled so it must be the heat that's causing it cuz the fans keeping it cool in there

It seems as if the head is coming from the headers, but maybe not.

Do not drive the car anymore until the overheating problem repair. Let it cool down and recheck all fluid levels.

The first thing is to check the cooling fans fuse(s) in the under hood fuse/relay box (UHB), fuse #1 and #4, both 20A. The third fuse is fuse #14 (7.5A) in the under dash fuse/relay box (UDB).

This link will contain all wiring diagrams for your car. Fig 123 and 124 are for the cooling fans circuits for A/T and M/T since I do not know what is on the car.

Does the fans come on when you turn on the AC? If the fuses are good and have power in/out then check for power at both fan motors: The Blue wire at the radiator motor and the Blue/Black wire at the condenser fan motor. Both should have power and of course the Black wires at both motors are the Ground.

If there's no power to the motor then check both fan relays in the UHB, replace the relays if defected. Do not forget to check the Radiator fan switch (other name: Thermal fan switch) and the ECT, the ECT sensor probably defected due to the temperature gauge is not working.

Other things control the fans also like the AC pressure switch, the AC/Heat control panel, the PCM etc providing the wiring for the system is good.

A simple cooling system pressure test will reveal that you have external coolant leak or internal leak (Head gasket for one). Check the engine thermostat, the water pump. Do all the things I have advised you to check and e mail me with the update information since you've not included them in the description of the problem.

I have to get back down to the shop. They just called me on the phone. HTH

  • My car 2005 honda civic keeps over heating? My car keeps over heatting if changed the radiator and thermis stat and the fan switch senser and still over heatting my fans come on for about 5 secs then shut off but I can turn my a/c on and both fans will come on

  • 2001 honda civic sedan one button on master power window switch does not work. Repair? The button that controls the front passenger window will not work from drivers master switch i replaced it with a new master switch after market but problem still exsist. If you use the button on the front passenger door the window will go up and down. What could the problem be. Could it be the connection plug to the master switch? The other 3 buttons will work on switch.
