2002 honda civic ex overheats while in traffic but not while driving?
I have 182,000 miles on my car and it has recently been getting hot when i stop or slow down but not while driving on the highway. I added water to my reservoir and 3 hours later it had lost about a tablespoon of liquid. I noticed a leak the size of a salad plate underneath my car but couldn't tell where it was coming from. It was in the middle about ten inches back from between my two fans. We just replaced the cooling fan relay and radiator fan thermostatic switch thinking that was the problem since there was no leak before. They found small traces of coolant in the water pump which is due to be replaced. Can anyone help me?

Depends on how many you have gotten and whether or not legal action had to be taken and if you worked it off or paid it off. First do the cooling fans even turn on before it overheats while idling or in traffic? Check the cooling fans. The radiator fan is not working. The only time the fan has an effect on cooling the engine is when the car is stopped or when the car is driving at speeds under 30 mph and the airflow over the front of teh car is insufficient to remove heat from the radiator.
if you have air conditioning on the car, turn it on and you should see the temperature drop. Turning the air conditioner on turns on the condensor fan which will then act as the radiator fan would normally and cool down the engine in traffic or at stops
there are two possibilities with regard to why the fan is not working. Most probably at that mileage is that the fan motor is burnt out. Thats a 95% probability.
the temperature sender that turns on the fan may be bad or the fan relay may be burnt out. The easiet test is to put 12v to the motor and see if it works. If it doesn't its the motor; if it does its the relay or the temperture switch
hope that helps

- Traffic court? Cab someone testify they where the one speeding? I was in a 2013 mustang and my girlfriends kid was trying to race.me in his honda. I wouldn't have anything to do with it. We'll we go around a corner and he accelerates and passes me and cuts in my lane. At that time there was a cop running radar and he pulls out and gets behind us. He pulls us over and my gfs kid in the Honda kept going. We'll if I use him in court and he admits to being the one speeding will he get the ticket? Or can they not do anything?
- Is this a guaranteed way to get out of a traffic ticket? Cops can't pull over/ticket diplomats right? You know, diplomatic immunity and whatnot? Plus I drive a black Honda that looks like it could be an official vehicle of an Embassy or Consulate. So suppose I put fake diplomatic plates on my car? That way if a cop ever clocks me for speeding and pulls up behind me intending to pull me over, he'd see my plates and not touch me with a 20 foot pole. Lol could that work?
- USA 2002 Civic stereo to Japanese 2002 civic stereo? I'm in Japan & got a 2002 Honda Civic hatchback, just to get from point a to point b, I want to change the stereo, if I buy a 2002 stereo & harness and antenna and all that from Amazon, for American Honda civics, will it fit in a Japanese Honda Civic?
- 1992 Honda Accord Shuts Off When Slowing Down To Stop At A Traffic Light/Stop Sign? I Had The Fuel Injector Check And Replaced But The Problem Still Occurs But When I Have Over A Half Tank Of Gas The Car Works Normal & Fine, I Just Bought The Car (So It Has Been Sitting Around For A While) And I've Added Lucas Injector Cleaner And Marvel Mystery Oil. And I'm Just Trying To Troubleshoot The Problem So My Mechanic Can Fix It Because He Doesn't Know What's The Problem Either.
