AC compressor going out, causing hesitation during acceleration?
2007 Honda Civic Hybrid
Just had freon put into my car. While the mechanic was putting it in, the compressor started cycling on and off.
He said that my compressor was about to go out and I should prepare to purchase a new one.
It stopped cycling after a couple of minutes, but when I started driving it, the cycling began again. First it would cycle repeatedly for about 5 - 10 cycles. Then once I drove a bit more, it stopped.
However, that was on a trip of over 80 miles, and my daily commute is only about 10-15 miles. So, as I drove it yesterday and today, it cycled the whole time too and from work.
I also noticed that while I'm accelerating, as the AC compressor is cycling on and off, it causes my car to hesitate very noticeably. While I'm on cruise control, the car hesitates sometimes as well.
What is your input on the issue, and what should I do to remedy the situation? I don't have a few hundred dollars to just drop on a new compressor, but tell me, is this my only option?
Maybe you overflowed it with freon
Well, the compressor is failing to hold pressure, so it is cycling constantly. The compressor will draw on the available power of the car, which is why you are sensing the hesitation.
You could also just turn off the AC and drive with the windows open. Maybe not an acceptable answer if you live somewhere very hot…
- Would a bad input shaft bearing noise present during certain rpms while jacked up? My honda civic makes a loud rattle during certain rpms (2000+rpm) in 1st and 2nd gear, it does have a bad isb but the rattle i'm not %100 if it is related to the isb. Should the rattle/grind also be evident if the car is jacked up if it had to do with the isb?
- Why does my car windows get water inside them during the cold weather or rain? It like penetrates through the glass front glass water is inside the glass and its a new car? Honda Civic 2013
- Why does my A/C Compressor keep going bad? In mid August, I changed the A/C compressor in my 2003 Honda Civic EX because it was making a horendous screeching noise every time I turned on the A/C and eventually, cold air stopped coming out. A couple of days ago, my car started making the same screeching noise when I turned on my A/C. Why does my A/C compressor keeping going bad? Is there a different part in my car the could be causing my compressor to fail?
- Hesitation and pulsing rough idle on cold start? 2012 Honda Civic, 165k miles. Been having a lot of hesitation off the line (picking up speed from a stop). When slowing down from 5mph to 0mph, and while stopped, my idle is rough and "earthquakey" in bursts. On cold starts my car idles rough and feels like a pulsating feeling like the car's going to die. RPMs on cold start are 1500 and take 10minutes to drop to 800. No codes, shifting is smooth. Any ideas?
