Are brake cleaning services necessary for newer cars? I have a Honda Civic 2016 When and how much?
I've NEVER done brake cleaning before but they were trying to give me a "brake service" for like $130 for my Honda Civic 2016.
Is that even necessary ever and and isn't there just spray for that and which one should I use?
Hi so unless it is a honda dealer who is telling you this needs to be done ignore it as a hoax.
They're selling you snake oil.
It's a scam. You do not need to clean your brakes. I've never had to clean my brakes nor have I ever been asked if I wanted them clean. Is it Meineke that's asking? Don't trust Meineke. They'll recommend a bunch of things that you don't need like air filters (inside your car), transmission flush, brake cleaning.
I'm 71 and I've had a car of some kind since I was 15. I have never cleaned my brakes. That is such a ridiculous scam it's almost funny. Walk away from that dealer/service place as fast as you can.
Drum brakes need cleaning if there's a heavy build up of dust inside the drum but that only involves removing the wheel and brake drum and cleaning the drum out with a rag and with some sand paper lightly clean the brake shoe linings. Disc brakes require no cleaning
Not for that price. Rear drum brakes can benefit from a clean and adjust service but every shop I've seen never charges more than $50. They pull the rear drums, hose down the shoes, adjust the star wheel and send you on your way.
On a two year old automobile? No way. The only exception might be if you have already racked up 50k miles or more. Even then it probably would not be absolutely necessary.
No need trying to sell you something you don't need
No, If this includes a fluid change and you a live in a wet climate then maybe in a couple of years…
That sounds like a total rip off to me. The only time I clean brakes is when I renew the pads and shoes. Brake cleaner spray does a good enough job. CRC is a good brand. Unless you've done 80,000 miles of just stop and go driving, your brakes should not need changing. If anything, the parking brake might need adjusting. That is not a $130 job.
- Do you think extended warranty is necessary on new cars? A relative just bought a $40k Honda SUV and is seriously thinking about getting a 7 year/100,000 miles power-train warranty. Do you think he should since it's just $500? Or is it just flushing money down the drain since if you can't trust a new Honda to go 100k miles who can you trust?
- I have a 1998 Honda CRV with 240 K miles. Needs $1200 of repair to pass inspection. Should i fix or buy a newer used Honda civic? Mike? I'm the original owner and have done a good job with oil changes etc. However, it needs 2 front control arms with ball joints and rear struts to pass inspection. I've also gone past my mileage on a second timing belt (first one done at 90K miles). Car body exterior and interior is in pretty good shape. Inside looks brand new. But repair cost at 1200 + timing belt ~500 =~1700 in repars. Is it time for a newer used auto.
- Which car is better, the 2016 Honda Civic EX-T or the 2016 Mazda 6 i sport? I'm getting a new car next month, and my choices have been cut down to these two cars. I'm having difficulty deciding. Which one is better? Please list spec differences (exterior and interior) as well as the reasoning behind your decision.
- Which car is better 2016 Honda Civic coupe or 2016 Hyundai Genesis coupe? I'm looking for a new car and these two are the only cars that fit my budge as a sporty car. The Honda Civic has a v cylinder engin and Genesis has v6. Civic offers Apple car play whereas Genesis does not… They both have many pors and cons to them and I can't decide which one is better and worthwhile… Please I need opinions!
