Do you think extended warranty is necessary on new cars?

A relative just bought a $40k Honda SUV and is seriously thinking about getting a 7 year/100,000 miles power-train warranty. Do you think he should since it's just $500? Or is it just flushing money down the drain since if you can't trust a new Honda to go 100k miles who can you trust?

That really doesn't cover much,.Catastrophic engine or trans failure, there are hundreds of very costly items that are not covered - generally, You may be able to get bumper to bumper for less than 500 more. Check out honda warranties but not through the dealer there are other places that you get genuine coverage from honda without all the mark up (at least you can for Fords).

A total waste of money. First, you'll never need it and second, it won't cover the everything you think it covers. Put the money in a savings account and use it if you need it. If you never need it, guess who still has the money.

The Honda power train warranty is 5 years / 60K miles. Most people will reach the mileage for both the stock and the extended warranty before they reach the years, so think of them as 60K and 100K mile warranties. If there's going to be a problem with the power train it is very likely to be before 60K miles or long after 100K miles. If it covered to 20 years / 300K miles it would be a good deal. As-is, donating the $500 to charity would be a lot better.

Absolutely NOT.

You bought a reliable car. And the factory warranty will cover you for a long time. Even after, it probably won't need anything major.

Bank the cost & save. 90% chance you will never need it.

The extended warranty is not worth the paper it is written on

A service warranty is simply insurance. And all insurance is a waste until you need it.
Is the warranty transferable? That of course makes it worth way more than $500 as it benefits the new buyer, at least in my opinion.
And if the buyer keeps the car, then they get the benefit.
My opinion is to purchase it.

A Honda powertrain will last way longer than 7 years/100,000miles. Buying an extended warranty is just paying the dealer's school fees for his kids.

  • Where can I find extended cables for a Honda nighthawk 650? I just am tired of leaning over and I want to do a mini ape set up with like a 9 inch rise so where can I find the throttle cable both push and pull, the brake, hydraulic clutch, speedo and tach thanks
  • Did you know that Philippines is so poor that if you own a car people will think you're rich? I live in the Philippines and I own a 2013 Honda Fit and I sometimes drive it when I go to the University, it's not even expensive. And my friends think I'm rich. Most people here only use underbone motorcycles for transportation, most families don't even own a car.
  • When do you think the Honda Civic will get a new redesign? My lease ends in 2022 and I see the 2019 Civic looks the same as the previous years except the change in hub caps, Honda sensing, and black chrome grill but other than that its pretty much the same car. Will it look better in the future?
  • Necessary accessories on a new 2016 Honda? I'm buying a new car after 20 years. I'm purchasing a new 2016 Honda civic EX. There are many features that can be added on to the exterior of the car, but I do not want anything for looks mainly to protect the car, such as adding bumpers to prevent scratches, body side molding, or protection from tire theft. There are also fog lights that can be added. What would you suggest?
