Bought a used 2012 Honda Civic from a dealer and 6 months later they have to take it back?

The sales person called me told me they have received a injunction from state court requesting the car be returned because it was sold by a someone who was getting a divorce and they were under court order not to sell anything. I'm flipping mad because they can't get my trade in back. I told them I wasn't going to return it and they said their attorney was going to give my name to the court and they court would just add my name to the order they have so I would end up losign the car anyway. I don't know what to do now.

Added (1). I know get an attorney but they cost $300 an hour probably say the same thing have to return the car. I'm going to meet with the dealer general manager next week maybe they can work something out but I think they should take the loss not me.

Well, you should actually come out ahead in all this.

You should get 94% of what you paid back.

I spent a dozen years as a small time car dealer and auctions had signs that say stolen cars would be settled at a 1% per month discount.

I never bought or sold a stolen car.

This is not something the dealer planned or did on purpose. And they probably know they are going to have to make you happy.

I wouldn't be in a hurry to hire a $300 an hour shmuck. Wait & see what they are going to do for you.

You should get most of your money back.

For example if the car was $10,000 and you got $2000 for your trade, they should owe you about $9400. (Price less 1% per month)

Which would be a fair outcome for you.

The dealer is losing in this deal too. So they will probably try to put you in another car and make you reasonably happy.

No need to hire an attorney unless the dealer is being totally unreasonable and we don't know that yet.

Now, you won't get interest refunded and your old tag can be used on your new car.

You might not even need a lawyer if the amount in dispute is small enough, you can take it to small claims court.

For example, if they want to offer you 70% of what you paid and you think 94% is more reasonable.
A judge would then decide in a reasonably fair way.

Retain a lawyer, not all of them have billable hours at that amount. If you can't swing a lawyer, then contact LEGAL AID. Do not contact the general manager just yet. The dealer's claim is ridiculous.

The dealer's story sounds a little fishy to me. My advice is to let this play out, meet with the GM, and see what happens before you take any kind of action. It might turn out that everything will work to your satisfaction without any action on your part.
