How do you increase your MPG on your car?
I got 60mpg in my Honda Civic recently for 100 miles by coasting downhill and increasing air in tires by 5psi.
How do you do it?
Hypermiling - Look it up.
It is DANGEROUS to coast downhill and airing up your tires over the recommended pressure. A tire blow out will wipe out all your savings. Buy a Prius if you want fuel economy.
Keep the engine tuned
keep the proper psi in the tires
remove anything inside not needed
drive @ 55 on freeways
be sure all fluids are at proper level
on surface streets, look way ahead at the 2nd or 3rd traffic signal and time your driving to avoid stopping
All cars coast down a hill and 5 lbs extra air isn't going to give you 60 mpg…
If I want fuel economy and remain relatively safe on the roads, I plant the vehicle in the slow lane and set the cruise at the speed limit.
If I want to spend the least amount of money on fuel as possible ( and not rely on public transit ), I park my car and take my motorcycle for longer trips while walking or bicycling for shorter trips.
I don't worry about such palrty short term stuff.
It's illegal to coast your vehicle. You do not have full control of your vehicle.
By driving a Prius. I never give gas prices much thought.
Take the coast road. The long way around rather than over the mountains. Drive below 45mph. In speed. On the paved road. Buy a vehicle with no power accessories. Like power steering or brakes. Roll up windows. I do have A.C. In mine. They eat gas. Turn it off when cooler outside. Drive a 3 popper motor. I have the big 3 in mine. Do not buy a car with pollution controls on it. Just plain muffler. Avoid using 4 wheel drive were possible. Use low octain fuel. Fuel injection on a vehicle is I'm told a help. Avoid in town driving. Stop go stop go. Shut of motor at oxen crossings & such were you will need wait for them to cross. Or were wrecks are.
- Do you have to sell your motorcycle if you plan to move from Colorado to New York? I have a Honda CB500F motorcycle that I love but it is too far to drive. If I decide take it with me, I have to drive twice since I have a car too. If you were me, would you sell the motorcycle before you leave or drive twice?
- Did you know that Philippines is so poor that if you own a car people will think you're rich? I live in the Philippines and I own a 2013 Honda Fit and I sometimes drive it when I go to the University, it's not even expensive. And my friends think I'm rich. Most people here only use underbone motorcycles for transportation, most families don't even own a car.
- Do you need someone to start your car when you go on vacation (winter)? One of my roommates is going on vacation for a week and has asked me to start up their car and let it run for 10 minutes every day. I think they are worried about their battery? It is winter, 30 degrees F, some snow on the ground. It is a regular 2015 Honda sedan. I've never heard of this and tried to find some articles but am not finding clear answers. Is this necessary or beneficial to the car?
- Why does my car lose mpg? I have 2013 honda civic why does it give me less mpg than before. I use to get 26-27mpg and now only 23mpg why if it's only 6 months old the car I've done 2 oil change only every 4500 miles since it uses synthetic oil and recently did tire rotation. How can I improve or should I take it to the dealer and fix it
