How does my car start with out pressing in the clutch?
I just bought a 97 Honda Civic hx. The dude told me that he took a pin out of the clutch pedal or something like that, not sure if it's legit but it will start with out the clutch in neutral. How?
There's a switch on the clutch pedal on my Ford Ranger pickup also, and the previous owner jammed a screw into it, so it will start with the pedal up. I don't mind, because I'm old, and I learned on a stick, and I always start the engine with the trans in neutral. Young people have all these safety things on everything, so they don't have to think. But you can remember to start in neutral, and/or push the clutch pedal in. It's not that much problem to remember, is it? Or maybe just fix the switch on the clutch pedal. It's called a neutral safety interlock switch, or something like that.
Put your head in the car where your feet usually are and look up at the clutch pedal. You'll probably see the switch. You might need a flashlight. It probably has a lever that is just hanging. It should be connected to the upper part of the clutch pedal. Go to a Honda dealer parts department and have the person show you a diagram. Maybe the pin is still in the clutch pedal, or maybe the previous owner removed it and it's gone. Then you'll have to get another one from Honda. So check it out.
p.s. Pushing the clutch pedal in is not "neutral". Neutral is not in the clutch. The transmission is the device that has neutral. That's when the shifter is in the middle of all its positions. Pushing the clutch pedal in is called "disengaging the clutch".
I won't i ever complicate it, their is a switch located behind the pedal but you won't be able to see it from above, you have to look under the dash to see where it is. It is a safety feature that I would recommend fixing as soon as possible. Not expensive to replace if tampered with.
Saftey switch is disabled its dangerous if starter activated car could lunge or actually start and drive without it working

- NEED GO CART CONVERTED FROM BELT CLUTCH TO CHAIN DRIVEN CLUTCH? I have a 2 seated carter go cart with a 5.5 Honda motor and is belt driven. I'm wanting to convert it to a chain driven system but need to know how. The frame is chain driven but the clutch is belt driven how do I convert the clutch to a chain drive system.
- How to keep my motorcycle clutch from burning out? I bought a Honda CBR500R for my first bike. I was riding over the bridge and I hit the clutch to help me get over it. I ended up getting more revs than acceleration after that. I called Cycle Center the next day and they said I had burnt out my clutch because I used it too much. Now it's going to take a week before they order the parts. I feel like riding the clutch is a habit. But I HAVE to use it to get out of parking. Any help?
- RPM of car increases really fast, barely pressing the gas pedal? I drive a 2008 Honda civic ex and I noticed that when I press the gas pedal lightly the tachometer increases really fast like up to 2000-3000 rpm and the car is not even going 50 mph. Is it normal for the rpm of the car to go really high when I barely press the gas pedal? My car has about 60,000 miles on it if it helps and I have had no issues with it since I bought it.
