How much should I pay for a 2018 Honda Civic Coupe SI; it's MSRP is $24,900?

I have already talked them down to $24,000 out the door. I wanted $22,000 out the door, is that unreasonable?

They don't make much on the car sale. I once dickered down to a certain price on a truck. Then I showed them a certificate to get it for factory price. They asked why I bothered to bargain, but that was one of the conditions on the certificate. Anyway, the difference between factory and their price was $700. They make money on the extras. So $22000 may be out of line with what they can do. Go for a new 2017 instead.

Who knows - well the dealer knows and they are the only ones that know how much profit they have in the car and how much of that they are willing to give away to get a sale. There's no wrong or right answer to your question.

"Out the door" is a phrase that means the total price includes sales tax, licensing, dealer prep, delivery cost and other fees. If that's actually the deal you got, it's probably the best you're going to do until the 2019 models start coming out around June next year. However, unless there's an extra option or two on the car you're looking at, where I live the MSRP is listed as $24,100, so something doesn't quite add up. Still if, $24k "out the door" is the actual final cost, it's not a bad deal. $22k is dreaming.

$23,000 off the sticker is a good deal therefore, depending on the sales tax in your state, $24,000 may be a good deal. $22,000 out the door is an unreasonable offer.

NOPE

Have you considered purchasing direct from assembly-plant? Used to be an option eons ago… Could save on delivery fee and there were other perks as well. Of course… Financing probably wouldn't be an option within this scenario.

No $22,000 is reasonable. The salespeople are the unreasonable ones… That's their job. Just don't get your price and let them sucker you into an extended warranty! That's how they make the biggest commission! A new Honda doesn't need an extended warranty! Tell them if you need an extended warranty you probably should go back to the Toyota dealer! That'll get a salesperson jumping! Best time to dicker with a salesperson is the last Friday of the month. That way they get one more sale put on the commission check they get next week instead of having to wait for their monthly commission check.
