How to hit VTEC on my 2013 civic?

I've been trying to know how to hit vtec on my civic 2013 prosmatec (not the SI model) for a long time now. I've had previous hondas aswell including the accord CL9 2006 but was never able to hit vtec on that cuz i really didn't know how. I have run it to huge speeds recently but was never able to know if i engaged vtec or not. Any help would be appreciated.

Newer Honda iVTEC engines don't have a single RPM when you can suddenly feel the higher performance cam profile kicking in. Newer VTEC engines (such as yours) are phased, meaning the cam timing progressively gets more aggressive as the RPMs rise.

As a result, the changeover from the economy cam profile to the "performance" profile is gradual over a few thousand RPM rather than sudden like it was on older VTEC engines where it just suddenly made a lot more power at ~5000-6000 RPM (depending on the engine). As a result, you won't feel that telltale "kick" where the economy cam profile just died off and the performance cam profile (VTEC) suddenly came to life like you would on the older VTEC motors.

It's not your speed that makes 'VTEC kick in yo' it's your revs, it kicks in pretty high, like literally as you're going to change gear, it's kinda rubish haha

As Jack said, the changeover isn't as raw and noticeable as on old Honda's. Couple that with the fact that it's a non-"performance" Civic, you won't feel it.

Remember, VTEC is a fuel efficiency device, not a performance device. It was invented so that they could get their standard power engines to idle and get better fuel economy, as well as pass emissions.
