I don't know the edition of my 1999 honda civic nor if it has vtec or not. How do I find out?

I bought the car off a previous owner and it did not come with owners manual.

You FAIL to state what model Civic you have, so you can't be helped. I actually can't understand how you don't know the extremely basic fact about what car you have. The owner's manual wouldn't tell you anyway - it covers all Civic models. Perhaps you should consult the nearest dealership or other knowledgeable mechanic to find out?

However, unless your valve cover is emblazoned with "VTEC" cast into the metal, the car does NOT have VTEC. Most of that vintage did not, unless it was a high-end EX or Si. If it says "VTEC-E" it's an HX. Does your heap have power windows, power locks, and factory fog lamps? If no, again a clear sign that you in all likelihood have a basic model without a VTEC engine.

Since 99% of them are not VTEC, I'm thinking yours isn't either. Sorry

What model do you have?
