I have a Honda Civic 1997 LX 205,500 miles I think I may have destroyed my transmission, when the car should be in neutral it drives in 2nd?
Also when I start the car I have to keep the clutch in other wise it will stall & will not drive in any gears. It will only move if in neutral and will not reverse please help give me an idea what's going on.
Looks like you are answering your own question ( too many people here shown as "?" ) + you don't state if the trans is auto or manual… Either way, the 1st thing to do is check the fluid and if it's low, top it off… If that doesn't help, then you need to have several trans repair shops look at it and give you estimates… It may be time to look for a "new" vehicle
The first thing to check is the shifter linkage. If the linkage has come loose, with the car in 2nd, it will not shift the gears. The car will remain in 2nd even if the shifter is in the neutral spot
Stick or automatic?
Manuals had shift linkage bushing problems with them seizing up.

It is time for a new or newish vehicle. Sell the car and let the new owner fix it.
- Is the 1985 Honda CR 500 water pump gear shaft compatible with the 86-2001 Honda CR 500 water pump gear shaft? I have a 1985 CR 500 and the water pump gear shaft broke. It has been discontinued from Honda, and no one else has it. It is a metal gear. The one's for the 1986-2001 CR 500 are plastic. If I have to use plastic, I will. However, I prefer not to. If anyone knows where I can get the OEM 1985 Honda CR 500 gear shaft, I would forever be grateful.
- What is the cause of 2nd gear popping back into neutral? I own a 1997 Honda Civic Ex (coupe) SOHC VTEC that has been having this issue with the manual transmission where 1st gear chugs and 2nd gear pops out back into neutral causing the gear to grind pretty hard. I've come across many forums all giving different reasons to why this happens. I'd like to get a more definitive answer (if possible) from anyone who has had issues like/or similar to this, any mechanics out there willing to send some wisdom and tips my way is greatly appreciated.
- Should I buy a 2008 honda civic ex-l that has 100000 miles or a honda civic lx that has 82k miles? The honda civic ex-l has only one owner and the honda civic lx is from a dealer. They're fairly the same price
