Must I remove the oil to change an oil filter on a 2012 Honda Civic 1,8?

As soon as you remove the oil filter, some oil will flow out anyhow. In which case, you'll loose some anyway. If the oil in there has only just been put it, but a new filter has not, then it should be fine to change only the filter and top up the oil.

If the oil is dirty what's the point of a new filter? If the oil is clean Yes you can do the filter without draining the oil The filter will be full of oil so have some rags handy. Oil will be lost so you will have to top off after you install the new one Otherwise you will be low on oil

Hope it helps

Todays oils will go 15,000 miles, but people do not trust the filter to go that far. Hence, change filter at the half way point of mileage, add a Qt.
Synthetics are a really good oil improvement in todays vehicles. But filtering is still the same as years ago, 5,000-7,500 miles.

Well no you don't.

But i don't see the point in changing the oil filter without changing the oil personally, if you take off the oil filter you will just lose what oil is in the filter so i suppose its less mess.

But then when you put that brand spanking new one on it will just get contaminated again by your dirty oil, not quickly but still. And if your a right petrolhead fresh oil means MORE BHP!

Why would you want to contaminate a new oil filter with old used oil? It's your car however and you can do anything you want. A new filter with old oil can be done IF you bring the crankcase oil level back to fill OR fill the oil filter with new oil before screwing it back on.

No. But if you are changing the filter you should always change the oil. If you want your engine to last that is.

Imao.
Drain the oil and THEN remove the oil filter…

You change the oil and filter both

No, you don't have to remove the oil

No, but why would you only change the filter?

I have read that the full synthetics never do you total change. JUst filter and top it of. I think it was amsoil?
