My 1997 honda civic is leaking oil? - 1

I changed my oil pan, crankseals, dipstick, clutch, and oil pan gasket and my car is still leaking where could this leak come from? My engine runs strong and only has 127000 miles on it.

I personally know that I''ve had to do those 97 1.6 engines and found the vale cover gaskets like to leak. It's also known to be a very common problem on those cars.Another common spot is if you open the hood and check the front passengers side of the engine there's a switch there that tends to leak.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way since you already did the oil pan gasket that shouldn't be leaking now but park the car on a drive surface and let it run awhile just to be sure no oil is leaking from under the car.

Check the oil pressure warning light sending unit with the motor running. Then there's also the valve cover gasket and head gasket to check. By now you've wasted so much money you could have even had the dealer fix the leak cheaper!

As many folks have offered, the oil pressure switch is a good guess, but I would add that the camshaft seal is also a common culprit on these engines. It should have been replaced along with when you did the crankshaft seal. Also check the most simple such as a loose oil filter or crankcase drain plug. These engines can leak engine oil through the head gasket as well but its is not a common thing. There should have been a new valve cover gasket put on when the timing belt was accessed for the crankshaft seal too but if it wasn't, that's also suspect.

Where is the oil leaking from? Get the car on jack-stands and start the motor. Electrical oil pressure sensing unit is a good place to look.

As philly says, the pressure sender switch is a common leak.

Switch

Valve cover gasket.

Clean engine with a good degreaser and power wash. Add oil dye run engine, use black light to see dye

May be rear seal in motor

  • Why is my brand new Troy Bilt TB130 with a Honda engine leaking oil? I assembled the mower, added the oil as specified, checked the level, started it up, and mowed the yard. It worked well, however as I was nearing completion I noticed oil on the mower deck, on top of the filter (it was dry), the linkage, and everywhere. Why did it do this, can it be fixed, or should I return it. How do I keep it from happening a second time?
