Power steering fluid leaking from the base of the steering column?
I have a 2002 Honda Civic and I noticed that there's power steering fluid leaking at the base of the steering column. I can't find anything about it online and don't want to take it to a mechanic if its something that I can figure out. Could this be the rack and pinion? Or is it just something simple? Anybody dealt with this issue before?
Check to see if hoses are leaking check hoses for tightness at the base you may have a bad seal check to see where it is coming from
- What kind of power steering fluid? I have a 05 Hyundai elantra and the power steering fluid is red. Dark red, and a friend of mine told me to use Honda fluid in it when I replace it, I siphoned some out and put a bit of Honda fluid it but the Honda fluid is clear, is this a problem? And what kind of fluid should I use? He said the Honda fluid lubricates the system better than a generic multipurpose fluid. Its probly 1/2 Honda fluid now mixed with the old fluid.
- Power steering fluid keeps going below minimum level in my 2015 Honda Pilot? Hi, I drive a 2015 Honda Pilot which I bought in June of this year. Since then, I've had to refill power steering fluid 3 times because it falls below minimum level after a short period. I have not seen any fluid drops on the ground. I will bring the car to the dealership but is there anything I can do besides refilling the fluid again, so I don't have to make tbe trip to the dealership?
- 03 Honda Pilot, clicking sound in steering column? When I press the brake, while in park, I hear a click in the steering column. It also clicks when I take my foot off the brake after putting in park and the vehicle does the normal roll back or forward depending on incline. Should I be concerned? It doesn't happen any other time.
- Does power steering fluid get hot if the car is just running and the steering isn't being used? If the pump is just spinning, recirculating fluid and nothing else… Would it still get hot? I had to bypass the pump from the rack and have the fluid recirculate. Would the pump get hot from just spinning? I know 8th gen Honda's don't have a cooler for the power steering anyways.
