Ran over puddle crank but won't start?

I would really appreciated if you able to help me. But if not i still really appreciated taking your time reading this.

I work 7 months to save up bought a car, It's Honda civic dx 1999 for $ 2,500 The engine everything is all good. A week ago it's raining hard in my town "Texas" i ran over a puddle the recent owner have a cold air intake and. I gues it must suck some water into the engine. When it happen it's about 10 foot the car shut down and stop. Lucky i don't see any cracked from the engine or oil spill so i guess and hope the engine are still good. The problem is i can crank it but i can't not get it start. And hopefully it's not a hydro-locking. I try get a quote from near they say fix can be 800 or more. I don't have that kind money so i'm try self fix.

i search over youtube i saw other people have similar thing and they take all the spark plugs and crank the engine to spit all the water that still remain in the engine, right now i can crank but can't not get it start i. I did a basic test like see any spark when starting from the engine. There's no spark from spark plug, 'm thinking is is the engine coil must be damage?

i'm really appreciate if you able to help me, i would like take to the mechanic but the price is too much for me to handle at the moment.

So it's not hydro locking, you're a lucky one. No spark? Try this to check/ Testing:

A notorious failed item on Honda in the same era: Main relay:

Make sure the timing belt is still intact, if the belt broke it could cause damage to the valve train. See if the distributor rotor turning while cranking (When you perform test one in the first video above)

Hope it help. E mail if you need more help or having more questions. HTH

Same thing happened to my son's WRX. Hydrolock. First thing, and you did this apparently, is to get all the water out of the cylinders. The youtube video probably taught you how to do that. Make sure you crank it enough with all the plugs out to get all the water out. When you finally get it started you will need to change the oil as soon as possible.

You probably didn't damage the coil but if water is in there or in any of the spark generating components it will not spark. If you have access to an air supply start taking covers off everything related to generating spark and blow dry it. If no air supply use a hair dryer and rags.

If no luck after this you can test the ignition coil yourself. http://www.wikihow.com/Test-an-Ignition-Coil http://www.international-auto.com/fiat-lancia-electrical-system/how-to-test-an-ignition-coil.cfm

If you don't have a voltmeter you can borrow one or take the coil to autozone or equivalent.

Let us know what you find.

PS---here is a complete diagnostic write-up which you can do yourself with simple tools. http://easyautodiagnostics.com/honda_dist_ignition/honda_ignition_systems_1.php

PS-2 Autozone or equivalent may have the spark plug tester if the other method using the plug itself does not give you confidence.

If a car with distributer! Remove cap spray inside with wd 40 or even furniture polish and wipe dry! (The neoprene with remove any dirt and moisture)
Do same around plugs and starter motor connections!
Hope that helps

If it spins over with no issues and plugs out. Then likely not mechanically damaged. No spark is our issue. Check coil connections. Water ingress will short out power etc

  • How come my atv won't electric start but will crank if I push start it? 2006 Honda trx. Doesn't have a pull rope only electric start. The starter motor turns over the engine but just won't start but I'll push it down the yard with it in gear and it will fire right up. I'm so confused by this.
  • My car has a new battery but won't crank? As I turn the engine on there's no click but the lights on the dashboard works. When we do try to jump the battery the starter wants to crank but as soon as we remove the jumper wires no crank nor a click, any advise? 2001 Honda Civic
  • 2000 Honda Civic will crank but not start I have a 2000 Honda Civic. I traded for it, I was actually a previous owner of it and it ran fine back in the day. I wanted it back and found it. It has been sitting in this guys yard for about 2 months. I go to start it up. It starts up just fine… Then it randomly just shuts off and never have been able to start it up again. It cranks and it smells rich in gasoline when you crank it a couple times. I checked the fuses and battery. Any help would be great.
  • Crank, but no start Honda Accord Lx 1990? So my Accord was stolen last week, and now that I've recovered it, with for some ridiculous reason only the hood rod and a radiator hose missing it won't start. The thieves removed the covers to my steering panel and left wires exposed, I managed to plug them all back in but now I crank and I get no sign of life. However, my horn and brake lights to activate. What could this possibly be?
