Smoking/ steaming & bubbling out of reservoir?
I have a 1998 honda civic dx 1.6 4 cyl. After I drive longer than 15 minutes you can smell coolant/antifreeze and car starts to smoke, My temp gauge inside the car does not work so i don't know if it's overheating. I open the hood and a bunch of steam/smoke is coming out of the reservoir, so I open the reservoir cap and most the smoke is coming out of the hose connected to the reservoir cap. And it also seams to be leaking from reservoir or something near it, cause I'll put 50/50 in the reservoir and after 15 minutes it's empty. Help please i don't know what to do or buy to fix it.
The line would be underneath the reservoir am I right? And I've looked under there before and I can't tell where it's coming from because it's dripping.
Check your oil for coolant, then do a compression test but my best guess is that you blew your head gasket. If so, a 98 Civic probably is not worth the expensive HG repair, sorry.
Look for leaks in the line and check the thermostat.
What Jason said plus check heater core.
'Hi so the coolant system has a leak which is why it boils over as most cars working temperature is 122 degrees c due to being a pressurised system.
so that is why you are advised never to do what you did remove the radiator cap from the reservoir. As the steam would cause severe scalding.
so one important component which losses it's usefulness is the radiator cap. Over time it's spring becomes weak and this stops the engine reaching it's working temperature the least expensive item causes the most problems.
- My honda 2001 honda 400ex started smoking and lost alot of power? It smokes pretty badly like a 2 stroke and doesn't have power like it used to. Could it just be the head gasket it does have a litte oil around it? Or could it be more serious valves and rings?
- Why is my motorcycle smoking? I recently bought a 1988 Honda shadow vt800c and now after long rides a small amount of what appears to be white smoke comes from the exhaust pipe. If I turn the bike off for a minute then back on it stops. Could this be from a coolant leak? It is low but I hadn t been monitoring it closely. Also we got gas all over the bike while fixing a fuel hose but washed it pretty well with a hose. Could it be leftover fuel or something?
- Smoke coming out from reservoir? Okay so I have a 98 Honda civic 1.6 4 cylinder. Everytime I drive more than 15 minutes I can see smoke coming from right side of hood where my overflow tank is (reservoir) so I open it up and most of the smoke comes from black tube on the cap connected to the overflows tank. I HAVE already replaced radiator cap, radiator hoses (top and bottom) thermostat, fuel filter. I don't know what else I could try? What else could I buy to fix the problem? Buy a new radiator? Any suggestions help
- Oil in radiator& reservoir? I have a 2001 Honda Civic LX. 5 months ago, I had the head gasket, timing belt, water pump, 16 valves, thermostat, spark plugs, crank shaft seal (2x), oil pan, oil pump, exhaust manifold and a crank angle sensor replace. Now, I have oil in my radiator and reservoir. Did the mechanic forget something or can a head gasket blow up in 5 months?
