Tips for Buying my first car? - 1
So my birthday is coming up and my mother and Decided its time for me to buy a car because ill being off to college soon. I was thinking about a 2008 Honda civic. Do you guys have any thoughts or suggestions when purchasing a car. Especially for a first time buyer?
The first car should be a nice one that is liked alot, because the first car is something special and when its a nice car, then its will be nice enough to keep for years to come.
when buying a used car, its better to buy from a dealer who gives full waranty on the transmission and the engine, because those are most expensive to replace or repair, if they don't want to give a full waranty on the engine and the transmission, that doesn't mean anything else than that car has problems, better is then to look for another car that gets full waranty on transmission and engine.
before buying, the cost for maintenance should be known, how much it costs to replace the wear-out parts and how often they need to be replaced. Some cars are not well constructed and have typical problems, that should be checked to, before buying. That generation civic has known starter problems, idling problems
for a new driver a car must have anti lock breaks (abs), for survival. Power windows are a must have for overall coolness. The 2008 honda civic has abs and power windows etc. But the safety in a side crash is not high, the iihs crashtest showed that in a side crash rib fractures are likely.
Go ahead and get any car you like but before you hand over they payment have a mechanic inspect the car for any expensive critical parts that are going bad.

Drive, second, and low. I know low is the highest gear because it increases rpm much faster than drive. My question is, when am I supposed to use something other than drive? Any tricks or hints? I've been looking at the honda crv, kia sorento, chevy traverse/equinox, acura mdx/rdx, nissan maxima and buick enclave. I really want something thats going to last atleast (6-8) years without having to replace the transmission or engine I want something very reliable and i'm willing to pay more for something that will last than having to replace major parts in a short time thanks for your help!
- Any tips or tricks to get the dealership to throw in a warranty when buying a used car? Buying a Honda Element with 150k miles. Any way to get them to throw in a 6 month warranty or something? They are asking retail for the vehicle.
- Taking my car into the shop for the first time (my first car and first time at a shop)? Recently acquired a 1999 Honda Accord for $1500 with only 160k. Runs great but my dad checked car and said oil is low and then proceeded to check the rest of the car and said all my fluids need to be replaced. What does that mean and what is the price for fixing this? I want to go to the shop with some sort of understanding of the prices so I know if I'm being ripped off or not.
