Upgrade Honda civic radiator?
Ok so i have a 2000 honda civic ex 1.6L and my stock radiator started to have prpblems and i'm thinking of changing it but migt as well upgrade it. Do you guys know of any radiators that provides more power that will fit my car?
Buying a new radiator for an old car is always a good idea, because if your engine overheats, it's all over. But I'm not sure you can "upgrade" a radiator. It's not exactly a high-tech piece of machinery. If you go to an auto parts store, and give them the make and model, they will most likely provide you with only one option. And radiators have nothing to do with power or output. But it's still a good idea. Get a brand new one put in, and then have it flushed once a year.
A radiator's sole purpose is to dissipate excess heat once your engine has reached operating temperature, which in turn is determined by the thermostat. A different radiator will not give you more power.
Replace the radiator if it is leaking or if a large percentage of the cooling fins are missing. A clogged radiator is relatively rare. With the 1.6 engine there should be no reason to replace it with anything of higher capacity.
If your problem is overheating, possible causes include low coolant, bad thermostat, worn water pump, or a non operational fan or fan control switch.
If you do replace the radiator, it's not a bad idea to change the thermostat while you have the tools out and the coolant drained. If the hoses are old, soft, or appear swollen, replace them too.
- I have a 2002 Honda xr100r and I want to upgrade the suspension so I can hit bigger jumps. What should I get? I want more suspension than the dirt bike came with and I want to spend the least amount of money possible.
- Why is coolant leaking from the ends of my top radiator hose on my 1999 honda civic? There isn't water leaking from anywhere else and it only seems to leak when the car has since cooled. It's never enough coolant for me to have to keep filling it up. I have changed the hose and it still seems to be leaking from the end seams. - Why could my 2000 Honda Civic show it's going to overheat I have coolant a new radiator a new radiator cap a new temp gauge switch and? A new thermostat head gasket is fine could it just need to flushed and a new water pump and timing belt
- 2005 Honda Civic running hot after replacing the radiator, heater core, and thermostat? Things I've noticed. It running hot is directly tied to me turning the heater and AC on. Usually turning the heater on would cool the engine down, but it makes the temperature spike. I replaced the heater core because it was leaking and I smelled antifreeze when the AC was on. The radiator is brand new. I've straight wired both fans to the battery.
