What happens if you press on the gas pedal while on parked?
My parents just bought me a new Honda Civic 2016 LX for christimas a few months ago. I'm a new driver. Just got my license not long ago. Today when I was at school I set my car on parked. Then, I noticed that I needed to pull up more. I fought that I was still on drive and press on the gas pedal. I pressed it for like 2 times and a few seconds until I noticed that I wasn't on drive. I was on parked. My car made like a rev noise while I was pressing on the gas. Is my car messed up now? I'm sacred that my parents will yell at me!
No you have nothing to worry about. If you were to rev your engine in park after a long time of doing this it can hurt your torque converter in your transmission, so if you ever want to rev your car put it in neutral. That is when your transmission is disconnected from your engine. But believe me that would take years and years to hurt your torque converter by reving your engine in park, its pretty well unheard of. Don't worry your honda will be just fine
Being in Park (not parked) is the same as being in neutral. The transmission is disconnected from the engine. If you did not over-rev then you did no damage. If you had popped the car into gear (that's drive for you newbies) the car would have jumped forward. That does cause damage.
"I set my car on parked"
No, you set your car IN park.
"I noticed that I wasn't on drive."
No, it wasn't IN drive.
"My car made like a rev noise…"
No, it wasn't "like a rev noise", it made a rev noise. "Like" doesn't belong in this sentence. Bad habit.
"Is my car messed up now? "
Probably not, but if you exceeded the "redline" rpm by very much it could possibly happen.
"I'm sacred that my parents will yell at me!"
You ought to be. You're not competent to drive a car, much less own one.
You would of had to practically pressed the gas pedal all the way to the floor to cause damage and you probably would know it if you damaged the engine by now.
Tell your parents it is not nice to yell…
You are, clearly, mentally ill.
You did not mess it up just the motor rearing up with Norway to go. Its all good
No, you did nothing to damage the car.
Yes, you ruined it. Hide the car and tell your parents it was stolen
The engine has a rev limit controlled by the engine controller. You would have to hold the accelerator to the floor for several minutes to do any damage.
Absolutely nothing will happen. Worry not.
