What is a good first car for 3k usd?

My top favorites are escapes, outbacks, equinoxes and Honda civics

Civics run forever. I had one, after a year, I gave it to my daughter, who then gave it to her niece… After driving it for 14 years! It still looked good and drove great. But then we maintained it very well.

All the cars on your list are decent choices. If fuel economy is your top priority, get something like a Honda Fit, or Mazda 3.

For $ 3000 you will find many junkers that require work and/or will not pass an emissions test… Better to save up and get a running vehicle

$3,000 limits your options, no matter what you want… Save more money if that is an issue.

$3,000? Buy the best running car available. End of story.
