What should i do if a Maintenance Required light comes on on my new honda civic with 10,000 miles?

I called honda service and they said the required service with a 10,000 miles would about $200.00 and i think i'm getting ripped off.

I think you can go to advance auto parts store and they will plug up the computer to it and tell you why the light is coming on

You should read the owners manual. That light means that the oil needs changed and possibly other things, like filter changes, tire rotations… Etc.

Again, read the owners manual. They don't put one in your car to take up space.

Read the owners manual and find out the required maintenance at 10k miles. A $200 charge might be a bit steep if the manual only calls for an oil and oil filter change.

Hi No it is not any kind of rip off whatsoever as well as servicing the diagnostics check which caused the service light to glow will identify any problems with in the engine and will be fixed.
why do you think that some one is always going to RIP you off engineers time costs money just like yours so are you worth less than what you are paid.

Did you expect to go through life without ever taking a car to the shop? If so, what color is the sky in your world?

You have the manual. (It was in there when you bought the car, anyway.) Read what it says. Then get it done.

At 10k miles all you need is oil change, tire rotation, air filters for engine and cabin. Nothing else

Look at the Maintenance Required indicator. It probably says "Service A" below the clock - that is oil change only. $200 is ridiculous. See page 245 of the Owner's Manual (first source) for the services due when it says Service B and has numbers below it. In addition, replace the brake fluid every three years (same source).
