Why is my car idling rough and sputtering?
OK so I have a 96 Honda civic with a zc engine swap in it the car ran fine and then popped a check engine light for an idle air control motor and reved when I had it in neutral so I drove it a lil more and I came to a stop and the car started to run very rough sputtering when I stepped on the gas. What could it be? I checked the plugs, wires, plugs, I put octane booster and fuel injection cleaner in it to. Is it the idle air control motor? Its the last thing I could think of but I wanted to ask before I spent all the money on a new one
Could be stuck lean and have lean misfire perhaps, Or could be combinations of Distributor, distributor cap, rotor, wires, plugs, injectors, compression, vacuum leak, fuel pressure, gaskets, hoses, Filters, sensors, actuators, etc. And of course, your idle air control.
It's over 15 years old and we don't know if the parts are already new or whether you get your parts at honda, or what.
You can get a tech to spend a half hour and report.
That is going to be the smart money.
Tell them you dumped a bunch of cans of stuff in the tank.
Tell them what parts are already new, and what kind.
Discuss what your ignition system type is, and whether there has ever been any maintenance or failures before.
Did you use parts from your engine? Or the swap engine?
Um its a little unknown the guy before me did the swap but I've been driving it a month with out a problem and I drive a lot its got a new cold air intake and i don't think any of the parts are off the old engine I was going to try a fuel filter and check that the spark plugs are getting enough voltage next and replace plugs and wires either way as a tune up maybe distributor cap and rotor as well um I don't know what else to think of to test
- Motorcycle is sputtering, what's going on? I've had in the shop twice with a carb clean, since cleaning them 3 times by myself didn't work. Each time I pick it up from the shop, it runs great for a week or 2. No vacuum leaks that I can find, runs same without air filter. I ordered a fuel filter which I don't have now. Anything else? 2000 Honda Nighthawk 750
- Hesitation and pulsing rough idle on cold start? 2012 Honda Civic, 165k miles. Been having a lot of hesitation off the line (picking up speed from a stop). When slowing down from 5mph to 0mph, and while stopped, my idle is rough and "earthquakey" in bursts. On cold starts my car idles rough and feels like a pulsating feeling like the car's going to die. RPMs on cold start are 1500 and take 10minutes to drop to 800. No codes, shifting is smooth. Any ideas?
- Does driving on extremely rough roads damage your car? I was driving to my friends house for the first time a couple days ago and I got lost. I ended up having to drive up this road that was all dirt, extremely cracked and had bunch of crevasses. My car was lurching pretty hard as I was driving up. Does driving on a road such as this cause any problems for your car? My car is a Honda civic 2014 and I was going as slow as possible up hill.
- Car is making a really soft hallow whistling sound, but only when idling Is this something that requires immediate attention? There's no performance issues but I'm wondering if it can snow ball into something worst. It's a 2004 honda civic 180, xxx miles
