Why is my Honda Civic shutting off while driving?

I have a 2000 Honda Civic Ex… Recently I was driving and in the middle of driving, my car shuts off, all my gauges go down and took a while to crank back up. My battery light turned on, so I replaced the battery, thought maybe the battery was old and needed changing, thought maybe that was it. Well it didn't help, it still will shut off and the battery light is still on. Could it be the altinator? Suggestions are much appreciated.

Hi these days you need a diagnostics check to find out most problems as 50 % of the cars electronics is how it all works.

So its not cranking at all?

Hey Rachel… That red light that looks like a battery does not mean you have a bad battery. It means the battery is not being charged. You need an alternator!

  • Why does my car keep shutting off? I have a 1994 Honda civic. Sometimes when I start my car up, right after I start it up it like dies/shuts off. I then start it again and it's fine, every time it will start on the 2nd time, but it doesn't always shut off on the first time. Does anyone know why it does this?
  • Why did my 1997 honda civic die out while driving? I have a 1997 honda civic and while driving the rpms dropped to 0 and the car eventually shut off. It's never happened before and now it cranks but doesn't turn over what do I do?
  • My car keeps shutting off when I drive it (only on the highway) not when I'm going like 20 - 40 mph? It's a 95 Honda accord I bought it with a new tranny, recently replaced water pump, timing belt, just fixed the breaks. What could it be?
  • Why does my car keep turning off while driving? I drive a 2002 Honda Accord coupe 6 cylinder & lately it's been turning off while I'm driving. The car just turns off & I always have to end up pulling over. When the car turns off, all the lights on the dash turn on including the TCS lights, brake light, door open lights, etc. When I try to start it back up it just tries to but doesn't. I usually wait about 5 minutes & it ll start again but it's been happening way more often now.
