The relay is shorting internally.
If the relay contact(s) is/are stuck closed, it can provide 12vdc to the whatever is connected to the contacts. The load is never powered down if the relay doesn't disengage.
A relay would be melted if it had that much power going through it. Have the alternator tested. If a diode is bad the battery will drain through the alternator. I did find a rear window defogger relay defective on a Toyota once and the battery would drain through the rear window defogger which does use a lot of power.
- My car ac went out. I took it to the dealer and they told me it was the ac cmpressor relay and ac clutch relay. A few weeks later my air is? Coming out very hot i take it back to the dealer and the diagnostic is ac clutch and coils need replacing. I'm juat trying to know if this is the same thing ac clutch and ac clutch relay. A couple of days ago, my car started making the same screeching noise when I turned on my A/C. Why does my A/C compressor keeping going bad? Is there a different part in my car the could be causing my compressor to fail?
