Will my transmission go bad? Should I sell my car?
I have an automatic 1999 Honda Civic EX that shifts really hard out of first gear and sometimes out of second gear. My transmission fluid is brown and I was told that it is too late to change; it will kill my transmission if I flush it and put new fluid. Is this true? Should I be worried? Can I change it or am I taking a chance of making things much worse?
You can change the fluid without a flush, at least a good part of it. Just do a drain and refill and change the filter. Then repeat later on. That way it does not stir up anything more than usual and you will get some fresh fluid introduced. Hopefully it smooths out.
Bullcrap. Go to a parts store, get three quarts of recommended fluid, Drain it, and refill. That's not a flush.
MaxLife DEX/MERC ATF
That's what I put in my 00 Accord. It works just fine.
Don't forget to clean the drain plug off. If that doesn't work, you're out the cost of three quarts. If you want close to a complete change, drive it a week, change it again, drive it another week and do one more.
It's risky. Ron A obviously hasn't seen neglected transmissions bite the dust after a fluid change. And Hondas require Honda fluid. Read this post on the dangers of flushing a neglected transmission

I would do what Ron A said. The plug should be a 3/4' socket wrench drive. It really won't make any difference. That year group Accord has a history of bad torque converters. My 01 was replaced under extended warranty, yours would be way too late. Like Ron said, what have you got to lose. It will either get better, or stay the same.
One other thing, if it does work, don't sell it to someone like the transmission is OK, that would be totally dishonest.
- Should I sell my car and invest the money? I have 2 cars. A 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse and an 2006 Honda S2000. I'm thinking of selling the Honda and getting 12-15k for it. Then investing that money. I have a friend who builds and flips houses. He said if I invest he'll give me a good return on it when they sell. I forgot the percentage he said, but it was higher than doing a cd or anything like that. I like my car, but I only drive that one once a week or so. Should I try and sell it and use it to make more money?
- Should I sell my aging car? I'm currently own a 1997 Automatic Honda Prelude that I use as my daily driver. I've had it for about 2 years with no issues but I will be moving to the city for my sophomore year of college. I have saved enough money to buy myself a newer used car. Should I keep the car even if the repairs that will come later on will cost more than what its worth, or sell it for a used Nissan 350z?
- I sell cars for 1800$ or less but the taxes are almost here could I sell this car for 3000$? It's a 2004 Suzuki Verona 159,000 miles Automatic It's in exelent condition no problems But do you think I'll get 3000$ for it? Most people usually want a honda or Toyota
- I pissed my dad off really bad should I just sell the car? When I was 3 I got ran over sued the insurance and got a 34k settlement that I get when I turn 21 I turned 21 a month ago got the money and went out and bought a green 1968 Pontiac Firebird with a swapped 428 automatic for 12k it's a bad ride but my dad is so pissed I didn't get a Nissan Altima or a Honda or something practical should I just sell it?
