2000 Manual Honda CRV misfiring?

Earlier today my CRV misfired on my way home, while I was trying to get it going in first. Once the blinking engine light turned on I pulled over and turned the car off. A couple minutes later I turned the car back on and it seemed fine. I had to drive 2 hours back home and it sounded fine and no lights came on. Do I still need to take it to the mechanic?

Yes, you need to have this looked into. A misfire can eventually ruin the O2 sensors and catalytic converter. Your car is 18 years old so I would suggest new spark plugs an new plug wires to start with.

A mechanic can't "fix" your car if he drives it and it is not misfiring or there's nothing wrong with it. Hondas of this vintage had main relay issues so that could be the cause of the intermittent misfire. If your CRV has not seen a mechanic in a while, it might be good idea to see one to check or replace maintenance items that require periodic replacement. If the misfire comes back again or happens often, it is time to get the car looked at.

Sounds like a failing coil pack. Have the codes read, it will tell you which hole is misfiring, and replace all the plugs, they're cheap and likely old. If it happens again at the same hole replace that coil pack.

When was the last time the spark plugs and plug wires were changed? All motors made by Honda have a common problem with the valves getting tight and they need adjusting every 60,000 miles. Go get a tune up done. A misfire will set the CEL light to come on steady. A flashing CEL means you have a serious problem that needs attention right away.

Don't screw around, if you have good mechanic, take it to him, if not then go to the dealer and pay the freight, @ 18yrs old something was bound to misfire on it by now, so just pay a smart mechanic to fix the problem… I got 2002 v6-accord, the alternator and the main relay went south on me, but it has been a very reliable car that rarely goes to the shop and was worth having it fixed… Too old to buy a new car anyways…

You need the car fixed. Turning it off and on did not fix the problem that's just waiting to make you late to work or school when it recurs. Consider how much regular maintenance the car had over that past 2-3 years. If the spark plugs are close to 10 years old, they may be used up. There could be other problems making the engine misfire, but worn out spark plugs is the most common. Have the trouble codes pull free at a car part store, then look up the definition of the codes to see what parts or systems malfunctioned and go from there. If the car hasn't been serviced since you had it, get it done.

Hi yes it looking at to find out why a faulty coil pack may well be the reason.
