Does Sport Mode turn your car into a V8?

We have a 2018 CRV Touring Turbo and the guy at Honda said when you press Sport Mode your car will become a V8 -like car.

Is that true?

Not really. Most cars, "Sport" mode changes the shift points of the automatic transmission. With your car, it might change the performance of the turbocharger, as well (maybe).

You'll get more performance in "sport" mode, at the expense of fuel economy. But don't expect the performance of a big V-8.

Lmao, that rice burner will never be a V8.

Not literally, but it's fast. I have new Accord with sport mode.

Hi so some dealers will tell you anything to sell a car.

No. You can't change the number of cylinders in an engine.

Haha… Am sure you weren't around when GM introduced the Pontiac Tempest, Buick Special and Oldsmobile F-85 in 1961. The Buick & Olds used a new 215 ci aluminum V8 (made by Buick - later sold to BMC and used in MGs, Rovers, Morgans, etc for years).

But - under John DeLorean - Pontiac made an I-4 out of half of their V8 … A noisey, shaking thing. The advertising slogan was "The Pontiac 4 that goes around acting like an 8"… Yeah, a straight 8!

I think the "Sport Mode" on the Honda stiffens-up the shock absorber, adjusts transmission shift points, etc. For "sporty" driving - but don't expect a big change in power.

If a salesman told you that, yes, of course, it's true. Just like you don't need to check your watch when he says good morning and count your fingers after shaking hands.

Seriously? No. Sport mode only changes the shift points and holds gears for a longer duration.

A light car with 190 HP can giddyup. I had a '73 Dodge Coronet with a 360 V8 that only put out 175 HP and weighed 5200 pounds. I got it up to 100 mph, but that's like throwing a rock off a roof… Not much point to it. It was a slug. Your CRV won't grow more cylinders, but performance can be altered by changing the way the transmission (CVT) shifts. Go drive one and see what all the slang meant.

  • Prius: Can someone explain the power usage meter & specific difference between power mode and Eco mode? My brother just got me a Prius to replace my old beater Honda and I'm having difficulty understanding the power usage meter (meter on dash with "Charge-Eco-Power") and the difference in the Eco & Power modes. I do understand the charge bit on the meter.
  • Can i turn my car into a lease? I bought my car in 2013, and am still paying on it. Is it possible for me to turn it in to a lease instead of buying it. Also I bought it new through Honda, it is a fully loaded 2013 Honda pilot
  • Are sport bikes a lot slower than super sport? I used to have a honda cbr250 but sold it to pay for college. I want to get another bike after I graduate. I was looking at the Honda Cbr500R and the Honda 600RR. Obviously the super sport has a 100cc bigger engine, but is it a lot faster than the 500R? Even more so than you would expect with the 100cc increase due to gear ratio's etc etc?
  • How long does it take for loan max to repossess your car after your loan due date in Ohio? I took out an $800 title loan on my 2000 Honda Oddyssey (188,000 miles) and I can't make the initial repayment amount of $288 on time. How long will it be before they send someone out to repossess my car? I live in Ohio and I'm really afraid they will repossess it before I can come up with the cash.
