How much does a new dashboard cost?
My mechanic told me my 2008 Honda CR-V may need a new dashboard because the readout section which shows the oil usage, mileage, etc, keeps flickering, or disappearing and coming back, or showing symbols which don't make sense. The battery is good and he is going to check for any loose connections. If no connections are loose I need a new dashboard according to him, because eventually there will no lighted dashboard. The SUV has 150,000 miles. Is is time for a new vehicle or replace the dashboard?
I wouldn't replace the entire vehicle over something as simple as an instrument cluster, that's for sure.
At my local pick-and-pull junkyard you can get an instrument cluster for $21 if you pull it out of the car yourself. If you're not sure if it will work, take 2, pay $42… One of the two is bound to work.
You can get replacement instrument clusters for your year CRV online for $100-$150 used but in good working condition if a junkyard isn't an option for you as well. A new part will probably run you 2-3 times as much as the used one but even then AND including paying a shop to replace it all for you, it would still be worth replacing it rather than getting rid of the entire car just because of a bad instrument cluster.

We popped it back into place temporarily but then when driving home the whole thing finally broke off.
