Upgrading engine in 1999 Honda CR-V?
Alright… I have a 1999 Honda CR-V and it's decked out. It's got fog lights, roof racks, shovel and pickaxe racks, black wheels, the whole shabang. The problem: UNDERPOWERED.
I don't understand why they didn't make a V6 model for this car. 4cyl is just not enough for an SUV. SO. What can I do to boost power without damaging the engine? Thoughts on adding a turbo? What else would be good on a 4 cylinder? I'm more familiar with diesel vehicles, so I don't quite know what to add…
Any opinions appreciated! Thanks.
PS. The reason I need more power is… When a car takes 20 or more seconds to get to highway speed.there's a problem. It even becomes a hazard because the ramp for a highway is not that long, and you block traffic getting on. It's quite annoying. And I know it's not just my CR-V, I've driven others and owned others. They are just simply underpowered. I don't want to buy a new car because I've invested so much in this one… But I need something more capable of getting up to speed.
The Civic has always has a small 4 banger so it sounds like you should have gotten an Accord with a V6 maybe. A 1999 i really too old to spend a lot on any engine upgrades but go speak to a few local shops on getting your engine rebuild but with a few performance upgrades.
- What's the best engine (to add horse power and torque) that i can swap into my 1999 Honda Prelude? Currently i have an H22A but i heard that the k series or even the f series are better? Is this true or should i just stick with my H22A?
- Upgrading 300,000 miles SOHC engine? I want to upgrade my hondas SOHC 1.6 ltr engine with new pistons, crankshaft, camshaft, displacement, engine head, valves and springs, cam gears, connecting rods, fuel system, and a small stage 1 turbo but the engine has 300,000 miles in it. If i upgrade it anyway, will it make the engine newer, or will i have to replace it either way?
- Upgrading exhaust on Honda? I have an 07 honda pilot with the 3.5l v6. Everything is stock I would like to know what muffler I should get to achieve a deeper more rumble sound ( more like a truck). Please don't say get a v8 or it won't sound like a truck because I know it won't but I want the deepest sound I can get out of a v6 thanks so much
