Why is the dealer charging me for my raflle prize?
I won a 2014 Honda CR-V LX 2 wheel drive in a raffle. I live in NY I'm aware of the tax, tag and tile fees, but the Honda dealer is stating that they 2 wheel drives are not sold on the east coast in NY due to the weather conditions.
Per the dealer in order to redeem my prize I must pay an additonal $1020 to upgrade to an all wheel drive. As the dealer put it the school I bought the raffle from just put a "down payment" of $22,700. The dealer is trying to get me to finance the tax, tag, title and registration and upgrade. Is this usual and customary?
It is up to the school to provide you with the car you won - ignore the dealer, go back to the school which was running the raffle, and insist that they sort it out and arrange for you to receive the prize you won.
Contact the Dealership and ask what they will supply for a "On the Road" price of Maximum $22,700

Read the fine print & try asking for the base version.
Your bigger issue might be them withholding income taxes on the value of what you did win.
Hay the dealer is putting up $22.700 towards a new car the rest is yours to pay. Talk to a tax man you might need to pay 50% in income taxes on anything over $12.000.CONGRADULATIONS.
@ Never what do you mean?
I find it hard to believe that there are no 2WD CRVs on the East Coast. Tell the dealer to find one at another dealer and get it to you without extra cost (except possibly transportation cost). On the other hand, if you frequently drive in bad weather, you may want the 4WD.
As others have mentioned, you WILL pay federal and state income tax on the value of the car at tax time next April. The dealer reports the deal to the IRS and you'll get a 1099 form to be included with your next tax return. Many people who win such expensive items in contests and raffles have to sell the item to raise the money to pay the tax. Just sayin'.
- I have a 1994 honda shadow vlx 600. I've been having charging issues? Could someone have put the positive and negative wires that connect to the battery on the wrong sides? All the batteries online look the same as this one and the cover on the bike only lets you slide it in one way (where the pos is on the right and the neg is on the left).
- 1982 honda nighthawk cb750 charging issue? Ello everyone, i have a 82 750 nighthawk and i'm not to sure what to do with her, the battery, when charged, will keep the bike running but once its dead, so is the bike. We had a local shop change out the complete charging system, stator blah blah and a year later its back to its old tricks. What do you think it is? Is there anyway to be sure?
