Does anyone else enjoy their commute to work?
A few co-workers think I'm crazy for living 1 hour away from work, but honestly it doesn't really bother me. I enjoy driving, it gives me time to relax and actually helps me clear my head before work because I'm concentrating on driving, esp in heavier traffic, rather than thinking about work.Although maybe my opinion is slanted because I do work 3- 12 hour shifts in a week. Even with wear and tear on my car, the cost of living near where I work is substantially higher, and it wouldn't make sense to rent when I'm only paying 15 dollars per week in gasoline driving an old Honda.
Would you rather be closer to work and pay 875 per month for a 1 bedroom apartment, or live an hour away and own an older small 2 bedroom house for 500 a month?
I'm OK with it. It generally runs about 18 minutes each way and is just enough time for a nice transition. When I lived in LA for 10 years it was 20 miles/45 minutes each way and I got used to it. However in my current commute and what I did then, I was going in the opposite direction to themajority of people and that is what made it tolerable. Most of the time I could get some decent speed.
You work three days a week. You have 4 days off. Many do not have that. I wonder how eager you would be to do the same drive 5 days a week and just have a shorter shift that most do.
Some think a 15 minute drive to work is a long time. Some drive a hundred miles in each direction and consider it a short drive.
So how long does it take the co workers to get to work 5 minutes or 55 minutes.
How long does it take you to get to something else outside of work. That could be grocery shopping maybe a night out with friend or whatever. That travel times counts too when you think rent. This is six hours out of your off work time. What other time to you need to spend driving to get your normal stuff done. How long do your co workers need to drive for a similar thing.
You each have a value to your time off. It is not the same for everyone.
I worked a shift like yours and would have driven two hours each way for the pleasure of sleeping in and not going to work 4 days of the week. How much is an hour with that special someone worth to you?
Some like apartment living less chores outside to do. Some like to own their home. It comes with many extra expenses over time. Part of it is labor. Things like cutting the grass or painting the fence.
- My 1995 Honda civic 1.5L recently wouldn't start an hour after a common commute? The fuel and air are not the problem. I'm not getting a spark. The engine cranks but will not start. I have already replaced the ignition control module and have tested the ignition coil. I don't believe it is anything to do with timing because it has no problems with skipping and such. Without replacing the entire distributer what else could be the problem?
- Is a BMW 3 series a reliable car to commute with? I'm considering a Honda Accord, civic si, or Subaru Legacy to commute but really like the awd feature and looks of the BMW… Are they good vehicles for college?
- Have anyone tried Mr. Gasket Cataclean to clean their catalytic converter? (P0420)? I have a P0420 code on a 2010 Honda Accord V6. I'm not sure if its the O2 Sensor or the Converter though I've been reading reviews on Amazon that a product called Cataclean works. Autozone has a sale going on with that product and willing to try it but I want some inputs beforehand! I rather pay 20 bucks for something than 900+ for a new converter!
- Do you think parents should be obligated to buy their kids a car for their 16th birthday? So I turned 16 last Monday and I kept begging my parents to buy me a car, specifically a 2018 jeep wrangler. Instead all I got was a bunch of jewelry and makeup and a hand me down of my parent's honda accord. I'm very upset because I really wanted the new jeep wrangler. Do you think parents should buy their kids a car for their 16th birthday?
