Help me with my car's tire gauge?
OK, so I drive a Honda, and I'm using my tire gauge to measure the pressure of my tires. PSI, I think. Two of them measure about 44PSI, but the other two measure about 20PSI. I have tried it many times, and two measure 44PSI but the different two still gauge 20PSI. So, I brought my car to my mechanic. My mechanic told me, "We tested them, and they all have sufficient PSI." But now, my tire gauge still says 20PSI. I brought it to my mechanic again, and he says they're all fine. What should I do?
Get a new gauge
Go to a different mechanic, get a new tire gauge, or both.
Secondly, 44 PSI is NOT your recommended tire pressure, it is the maximum PSI can handle before blowing to smithereens.
Depending on your year and trim level of Honda I guarantee you recommended tire PSI is around 32 lbs, give or take.
Look at the information sticker posted on the door frame of your Honda. Its recommended tire PSI will be stated there.
Get another pressure gauge and re-check the pressure in all tires.
The proper tire pressure should be listed on the driver's side doorjamb or the driver's door edge.
Get a better tire gauge.
Take it to a tire store, tell them what you just asked and ask to watch them check the tire pressure using their tools and then using yours and you should see where you've gone wrong.
Sounds like you have a defective gauge. Try a different one.
Get a new tire pressure gauge
Buy a more expensive tire gauge that works!
Get a better tire gauge. Tire pressure is in the manual or on the door post. I believe it is 35PSI(cold)… In that the car has not been driven yet. You want to be spot on for this as the tires will wear out faster if the pressure is too high or too low.
44PSI might be for the spare tire while it sits in its compartment. Once you have it in use, you adjust the air pressure down to the right pressure.
The reason it is so high, is because all tires leak a wee bit and if it is higher, then you can afford for it to sit in the compartment for YEARS and still have enough air in it WHEN YOU ACTUALLY NEED IT. You can always let air out but not that many people carry a pump to add air to a flat spare and flats can happen miles from nowhere in the rain in the dark… In the mud… And you are in your best clothes. "So it seems"
It takes a bit of practice to hold the gauge straight on the valve, as my eyesight has gotten worse over the years, I like the tire gauges that have a hold pressure thumb valve so you can get the gauge in your eyesight off the tire. 44 psi is way too high, those tires should be about 32-34 psi all the way around on all 4 tires. 34 in the front and 32 in the rear.
The old style push out gauges are total junk from China, you need a good quality tire gauge that works consistently.
- Punctured tire replacement - can I replace only 1 tire - is it safe to replace the PUNCTURED tire only? My 2005 Honda Pilot rear left tire was punctured near the threshhold (ie - sidewall), but still usable. Thus the tire dealer patched it only. Should I replace that punctured tire only? Or should I replace the 2 tires on the same axle? Or even buy a whole set of 4 tires? I'm concerned about safety, and thus your best advice is very appreciated.
- Honda Pilot Tire Change Help Want to Size Up? If I currently have 235/70/16 's on my lifted Honda Pilot with stock rims, and i chose to put 245/75/16 's on the same rims which are 6.5 inches wide, would this drastically affect my SUV's maneuverability? Or would it be essentially the same? The difference in diameter between the stock tires and the tires i want (Boyfriend Goodrich All Terrains) is 1.4 inches.
- Why is my gas gauge glitching? I have a 2004 Honda Civic, so when I went to fill up the gas tank a couple weeks ago, a few hours later, it was showing that I was halfway between full and half. Then it went back to normal a while later back at the full point. Then today, I was at the halfway point between half and empty. Then when I looked at it, it was showing that I was close to the gas light coming on and then when I looked again, it was back at the halfway point. What's the problem?
- Why doesn't my car gauge warning lights come on? Okay so I have a 97 Honda civic coupe and all of my gauge light works. But my check engine light, oil light, low gas, etc. Doesn't come on. What could be the problem?
