Honda Insight won't start?

I have a 2010 Honda Insight. My fiancé and I got this car at a used dealership and the car drove fine initially, however the trunk would not open, which was the only problem. The next morning, the car wouldn't start and it needed a jump start. After that, it was fine. However, we soon found out that if you didn't turn the car on every day, the car would die. Eventually, the car stopped working altogether, even with jumpstarting. We got it checked out at Honda, they said they fixed it by replacing the battery, but we tried to leave the parking lot and the keys wouldn't unlock the car and the car wouldn't start. This is very frustrating, as my fiancé spent $1000 trying to get the car fixed and it's still not working. Does anyone know what could be the cause of this? I can't believe EVEN the Honda people couldn't fix it apparently.

Sounds like a parasitic draw. Any competent auto electrician should be able to troubleshoot it.

If it wouldn't work when you were at the Honda parking lot? You had Honda immediately look at it, right?
Did they make you pay for the replacement battery or at lease give you a discount?

Look for something not turning off that is draining the battery. Perhaps a courtesy light in the glove box, trunk or engine compartment isn't turning off when the cover is closed. That sort of thing. Anyone with an ammeter and a basic knowledge of how to use it can check to see if there's a constant drain on the battery with the car off. The amount of electrical flow will give an idea if it is something like a light bulb or a larger component.

I looked up a Parasitic Draw on your car and none came up for the Insight. But MANY models had problems with the AC RELAY sticking ON and draining the Battery. Pull the AC Relay and see if the draw stops.

  • My 1983 Honda nighthawk 650 won't start with the electric start? I recently replaced the ignition coils because the old ones were getting heat soaked and the bike would die, however now the bike won't start with the electric start it turns over fin and the starter sounds fine but it won't start occasionally it ll start when it's cold or try to but I've been having to bump start it in order to ride it. So what's making it do this? Could it be the kill switch? Or something else?
  • Is a Honda Insight worth it? I'm thinking about buying a 2002 Insight, but are they any good? I don't know anyone with a hybrid car so are they dependable. And the whole gas + electricity thing how does that work. Do I have to plug it up overnight or put extra money into it to drive it. Forgive my ignorance about the matter.
  • I have a Honda HRX217 push mower. Backfired when trying to start it, now it won't start? It was running, then I shut it off to open and close a gate, and when I went to start it again there was a really loud backfire and now it won't start. It will sound like it's almost about to start but not. Then get progressively weaker each pull. I changed the spark plug and cleaned the air filter. Any ideas?
  • I have a Honda Harmony HRB215 K4 SDA that won't pull start but if I take off the recoil and drill start it, it runs perfect? I have a Honda Harmony HRB215 K4 SDA that won't pull start but if I take off the recoil and drill start it, it runs perfect. I did a compressin test, the pull start only gets the mower to 60psi but the drill gets the mower to 150psi. This mower does have a decompression vale where the ehaust opest about 1/8 of the way. I tore the ead off and checked and cleaned the valves. They don't stick open. Could there be an issue with the decompression valve? Or would it be the piston rings?
