Honda Rebel 450 oil leak?
Left side of my 86 Rebel 450 seems to be leaving a little spot of oil right next to my kick stand. Bottom of crankcase cover has a little oil on it as well. Before i pull the cover, What is the leak likely coming from?
Check to see if it's coming from the chain area. Getting too much cleaning fluid or lube on your chain can cause it to liquefy and leak there. Take off the countershaft sprocket cover and clean up around the front sprocket. See if that stops it.
If not, clean the engine thoroughly and continue to look for the source. It could be the countershaft seal which is common when people adjust their chains too tight. If could be the left side cover, it could be the oil plug, it could be the clutch rod seal.
It can also be leaking from the shift shaft seal.
The constant up & down pressure on the shift shaft can wear out the seal and cause it to leak.
Clean the entire area with "contact/brake cleaner".
It dissolves lubricants.
OR use "engine decreaser".
Both are available at auto parts stores.
Liberally sprinkle white baby powder in the area of the leak.
Go for a ride.
The white powder will discolor when oil touches it.
You will then see where the oil is leaking from.
Could simply be a bad cover gasket or a bad driveshaft seal. Check and replace.
- Should I get an 87 Honda rebel for 1500 or a 15 Honda rebel for 4100? Both will have same insurance rate. I know the older one will have more problems to fix but is cheaper up front while the newer one cost more now but will have less problems in the future. Also in case you are wondering the 87 is a 450cc and the 15 is a 234cc.
- Choke not engaging in Honda Rebel 450? I have an 86 Honda Rebel 450. Bike runs great however the choke switch does not engage at all. I can start the bike ifif I manually pull the choke up on the carbs, but the choke switch does nothing at all. Any idea what to do?
- 1982 honda nighthawk 450 front brakes sticking? I drive it regularly to school but I went on a three day weekend and this morning everything went fine on the commute but then later in the day the front brake stuck but when i wanted to go home it worked. What is my possible problems, so I can find out how to fix it on youtube? Is it unwise to keep riding as long as the brakes are not currently sticking? This has only happened this once and I have ridden it a couple thousand miles sense i bought it this spring.
- Frame size of 250 and 450? I'm 17 years old and weigh 140 lbs at a height of 5'11. I want to get a KTM 450 EXC, but I don't know if it is too big for me. I have heard that the Honda 250x, which is a perfect size for me, is the same frame size and the KTM 450EXC. All in all, is the 250x the same size as the 450EXC?
