How bad do you think the damage to my car is? Knowledgeable people only please
I got in a car accident today and my 2009 Honda Element EX (which I love more than most of my immediate family) took some damage. Neither car was moving faster than 10 mph. The road was wet, and i skidded through a stop sign. The other car did not have a stop sign, breaked, and hit me right on the driver side front wheel. I was able to get my car over to the shoulder, but it made a terrible noise.
There was no obvious damage to my car, but a closer look revealed that the driver side front wheel was sitting at an angle. I looked closer and saw that the wheel was pretty much leaning against the breaks. Attached are some picture. The car was moved off the street and will arrive at a body shop on monday.
Those photos are not helpful + have you even contacted your insurance company yet? They usually determine where the vehicle will be repaird
No car will skid through a STOP sign doing 10 MPH, Sweety.
BTW - your strut is bent.
How do you hit a stop sign? Are you saying the other vehicle pushed you into the stop sign?
Brakes NOT breakes. Proof read before uploading.
I agree with GLENDA, no car will skid at 10mph, unless your car experienced a severe mechanical malfunction
from my guess, bad photos, your control arms are bent, your strut is bent, i think it would be safe to assume the front suspension would need to be replaced.
Since the insurance got involved, your most likely looking at a salvage title.
let the body shop take care of it.
It is repairable, and you will probably be best off with paying for it yourself. The bent strut is obvious enough (the struts have to be replaced as a pair) but there may be other bent pieces. I agree the upper control arm is probably bent. A steering and suspension shop will give you a free visual inspection and a reliable estimate based on that. Expect a bill in the $500-$1000 range… I would be surprised at much more than $1000.
Obviously I do not recommend driving it until it is fixed. I didn't think you would, but just to be sure…
This is not the job for a body shop. You have obvious front end damage. And that is especially important for a front wheel drive car. There are shops that specialize in front end alignments. Find one.
- Punctured tire replacement - can I replace only 1 tire - is it safe to replace the PUNCTURED tire only? My 2005 Honda Pilot rear left tire was punctured near the threshhold (ie - sidewall), but still usable. Thus the tire dealer patched it only. Should I replace that punctured tire only? Or should I replace the 2 tires on the same axle? Or even buy a whole set of 4 tires? I'm concerned about safety, and thus your best advice is very appreciated.
- Did you know that Philippines is so poor that if you own a car people will think you're rich? I live in the Philippines and I own a 2013 Honda Fit and I sometimes drive it when I go to the University, it's not even expensive. And my friends think I'm rich. Most people here only use underbone motorcycles for transportation, most families don't even own a car.
- Do you think CVT transmission is bad? I'm truly in love with the 2017 Honda CR-V except for the CVT. I've heard so many horror stories about it that I may buy another car because of it. So do you think CVT is bad or am I worried for nothing?
- Why do uneducated people usually date other uneducated people? Like some hoodlum Mexican woman will fall madly in love with some cholo gang banger guy with face tattoos who's killed 10 people and works at McDonalds and thinks his primary aspiration in life is to smoke weed and collect air Jordan's and put a stupid spoiler on his 1995 Honda Civic. What's the attraction?
