I want to turbo charge my car?

I have a 1988 Honda prelude 2.0s. I want to boost but don't know if it would be worth it. It has 235,00 miles and has just had regular maintence, nothing serious has happened to the engine and it still Ru s great. Any advice would be great.

'Most factory decent engines can hold 5 or 6 psi with no long term damage'. So if the engine is okay, you might be able to get 40 or 50 more hp with a turbo without re-building the engine. But, because of the custom tubing needed, a turbo set-up might kick-you five grand. A hundred bucks a horse power… So, now it's your choice… That same five grand would probably be a decent down-payment on a new car…

You boost an engine with that many miles it will go BOOM. You need to do everything you can to baby it if you want it to last any longer. Your plan is a really bad idea.

What is your budget/goal?

The B20a will need a custom manifold welded up, so there goes about a thousand dollars…

What is your plan for intercooler/piping?

Who is going to do your tuning?

Are you planning on trying to use the stock internals? Or, are you going to build up a proper motor that isn't a ticking time bomb?

If you are going to dump a couple grand into it, might as well do it right.

I would rebuild the engine and transmission before turbo charging it. You also should upgrade/rebuild your brakes since you'll be going faster and since you'll be heavier you'll need more stopping power.

Just looking at the price point… And you can see it is not worth it. Even if the engine did last to say 350K miles, still not worth it. It is very pricey. And MPG drops because you will always be gunning it.

Note: a turbo won't help in a traffic jam. You are stuck to 20MPH.

Also the cost of tickets will go up (as you will receive more of them when you do gun it on open highway. That is "For Sure"

The amount of work you have to do… Heck, go to an autoparts store that sells a turbo for your car and price the stuff out that you have to change. Not you, a mechanic… So there are his wages PLUS.
Heck look around at rentals and see if you can find a Turbo Honda to rent for the day… And see if it is what you want or expect.
A hell of a lot cheaper than doing it and finding out you wasted your money.

  • I want a new Honda CR-V but only if dealer agrees to paint it in color I want for free. Will they agree to it? I want a new Honda CR-V in my favorite color: Sapphire Metallic which is available on Honda Pilot but not on CR-V for whatever reason. But this is the only color I want. So will dealer agree to do it?

  • Do car companies have to fix recalls free of charge? Looked up my car and it had four recalls. Does the company I bought the car from (bought new) have to do the maintenance free of charge? Also should I print out the sheet from the Honda website with all the recalls? (I'm in the US).
  • Twin turbo 300zx a good car? I'm looking for something reliable and fast… I've had my eye on a honda civic si but was interested in this car they want 6500 and it pushes 420hp. Would I be wasting my money? It has 200k miles but the engine is freshly rebuilt
